Want to renew all valves and lifters

After grinding original valves 20 years ago i FEEL IT IS TIME TO RENEW THE LOT. the lifters and guides are original.

The valves are sticking ( ATF + acetone treatment did not help more than temporarily) and I would like to know what I need. I have the tractor on an island so I would like to make the repair job there.

Can I do the repair job without taking the radiator off? This is a front distributor model.
What sort of valves (and adjustable lifters?, springs etc ) would make sense to order. Engine pistons and all bearings renewed 20 years ago. Tractor in daily summer use on my boat yard.
The valve seats I will be forced to refurbish only with hand electric tools as the tractor is as said on the island.
Must I take out the camshaft?

What other parts will I need?

All comment are most appreciated

Hi Sten, Which tractor is this? You should place your request over on whichever forum has your tractor. If it's a Ford put it on the Ford forum. You will get a lot more responses. If the valves are in the engine block you need a spring compressor made for that. I don't think you would need to remove the cam. Hal

Sten, You will get more responses on the Ford 9/2/8N
section of this website. The seats are hardened so I
don't know how much you will be able to dress them.
I would replace the lifters with adjustable ones. I
would not uses rotating exhaust valves. You do not
need to remove the camshaft.

well the first thing to do is check compression, then post results. then if nesessary pull head , after looking at valves can make a desision on them whether to replace or not. valves may be just gumed up from light tractor use. it is possible it just needs them removed and clean stems. if they are sticking in guides the guides cant be that worn too bad. upon disassembly of engine then can make list of parts needed. even post pic. of valves once head and side cover is off. you will get more accurate answers with pictures. cam will stay in if lift checks ok.if it comes right down to repair i would just remove engine and haul to town were work can be done correctly as this is presision machine shop work.

I will agree with rusted. Sounds like the valve stems are just gumed up in the guides. I had a real bad case of sticking valves on my AC model M. this was caused by using some old gas. You may want to make sure you have fresh gas. I had to remove the valve cover and get the valves free, by tapping them back down, and using some light oil on the stems. Stan
