PTO JD Model A 1947

Your 47 A will have a 6 spline power shaft same as on "Old John" Nancy's 48A.

Make sure the drive shaft on the bush hog connecting to the tractor's power shaft has 6 splines.

We have 5 Bush Hog finishing mowers and they interchange with all our tractor models: As, M, MTs, 40, and 70s.

Hope this helps.

Like the others have said you should be fine. The only big differences I have found are that some of the older tractors used a smaller shaft. You can buy a sleeve adapter or better yet an overrunning clutch that will allow you to hook up AND give you the overrunning feature as well so the hog doesn't try to push you thru a fence or into a ditch!

A 540 rpm shaft will fit up fine on it. I do strongly suggest an overrun clutch adapter to keep it from pushing you when you clutch it out.
