How do I know when my red clover seed is ready?

I am growing about two acres of red clover seed to sell. I would like to harvest this weekend and I think is ready but I do not know if is ready for sure. The stems, and leaves are brown and flower heads. But I have broke open alot of heads and found some brown seeds and some yellowish/white seeds. They are brown correct? or are some yellow? or are those just not dried yet? Thanks Mike

You pinch a head and rub it between your thumb and finger. Needs to rub out real good and dry almost brown. Do you plan on combining it direct or cutting it first. Doubt if you will get the
combine going good on two acres.

What type combine ? pull type or self propel?
Takes a lot of practice and preparation. You have to duck tape about every thing. Those seeds will leak out any holes. Have to set the cylinder down close and crank up the speed. Ac all crop 72 did a good job but I latter went to an EIII gleaner and cut a lot of clover with it.

My great grandfather cut alot of clover seed direct with a Allis Chalmers 66 (He would wearout a set a cyclinderbars every year).I am not sure when to cut but he said that you had to clean whatever seed you cut the same day to prevent it from heating and hurting the germination.I still have his clipper seed cleaner and all the screens he used.
