Computer problems

Well my 10 plus year old Dell computer has died so been off line for a coup[le days and do not know when I will be back on.
Plus my mother fell yesterday and had a heart attack and will have surgery tomorrow to do a stint

I have deep sympathy for your mothers fall, and attack. May all turn out for the best.
I have had very good luck with computers purchased from Ebay. HP and Toshiba and Sony computers seem very stable. The Professional Business class devices are far and away better than the home based systems. Windows8 is OK as is windows7 8 can be used with the look and feel of 7 (not the touch screen like slider shown on TV. It works. Jim

But I'm told that 7 is much better for the technology-challenged, of which I am one. I greatly respect Janicholson's opinion on just about everything, but when he says Windows 8 is usable, I fear he isn't coming into it at the same level of ignorance as many of us.

And I'm happy with 7- its very stable- I can't remember the last time my computer locked up and required a reboot.

Well first I agree with Mr Nichlson On the Toshiba. I have a year old Toshiba and wife has Sonny both have been great. Windows 8..... My new Toshiba came with xp or 7 and like an idot I let them upgrade me to 8. To say the least you will have a learning curve. After a year there are still a few things going on that troubles me but overall I would do 8 again. Sorry about your wife, do you know which came first the fall or the heart problem? Keep us posted.

Have this old Dell sort of working. Had a guy look at it today and it is up but not up as well as it should be.
As for my mom they think she fell and by trying to get back up on her own she stressed her heart which in turn caused the heart attack. They did an MRI today to make sure she did not have a stoke but will not know that out come till tomorrow

Our thoughts and prayers for your mother Rich.
That old Dell can be fixed, no worries there.
If you have too much trouble with it email me.
Take care of Mom first though, you know nothing's
more important than that!

So sorry to hear about your mom, hope all goes well. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. I had my heart attack last january, they put a stent in. Not a bad surgery at all.

Those who use it without the touch screen menu and icon driven page find no issue. I hav enot adopted a negative attitude towards Win7 as it is still on my computers. Writing with a XT old computer right now. Jim

Hope Mom comes out OK with few problems. As for the compuker, I was gonna say something smart azzed like 'It's waterlogged', or 'Youse is an ET genius- fix it' or something like that, but I'll let some other moridiot say it......You got enough on your plate for a spell.

I hope all goes good with your mom. I hate computers so I can only wish you luck with that. I love my iPhone. Lol. But really I hope everything goes well for your mom. J

Sorry to hear about your mother, hope and pray all will go well.
Dell Dimension 3000, about 10 years old also trying to go out. Took Superanti-spyware off and it cleared right up. Put a newer version on and went back to having trouble. Most of my trouble started after putting My Book Essential External harddrive on.

Up date on my mom. They checked her out today and did not find any blockage in her her so her heart attack was caused by stress over trying to get up after she fell

good news on your mom! prayers going up for her.....

as for the computer, I went to tech school on computers and had a shop for 6 years, repairs maintenance and sales. take the advice of whomever it was and buy the toshiba......my last toshiba laptop went strong for almost 8 years, this one's going on year 2. hard to beat em.

my personal preference of operating system would be Linux, but that's not something anyone is going to be getting into, windows 7 was/is good and stable, I haven't used 8 yet so I can't compare. I will say that MS has gotten much better through the years with their operating system 'updates'.....used to be before I'd install their newest version of operating system, I'd give them at least 6 months of it on the market, by then they'd have SOME of the bugs worked out
