IH 574 vs 584 and other regional tractor Q

I'm just picking these two similar tractors as an example, locally
there are all kinds of IH384/484/584/684 etc tractors and the
newer x85 versions of these but almost none of the "weird"
sloped/rounded grill models like the 574 etc. Other areas seem
to have no square sheet metal models.

Why did this happen? Why did IH market two body styles of the
same tractor? I know Case did case and david brown models in
comparable models for a while too but that has an obvious
reason. Did the rounded hood IH come from farmall
background?

I'm a bit of an idiot! I did some searching around and it seems my notes about the actual ages of the tractors I grew up around are wrong!

The 584 I grew up with was always said to have been a 1977 and was said to have replaced a 484 that was traded in that year. The production dates disagree! Neighbour has a picture of the pair of 484's from the farm on her wall from about that time so I'm guessing the 584 must have been bought as a left over an the 484's were bought in the late 70s'.

I'm no expert, buy have owned both 574 and 674 models- the obvious difference is that these two are "utility" tractors- smaller rear tires, lower profile. I think the 84 series has Farmall heritage, and 74 has International heritage. Would expect more of the tall-tired "row crop" 84 series would be sold in the Midwest "big farming" country.

In the small tractors both are utility series. The swept back front axle seems far more common in the 74's than the 84's though. Lots of variations, I've seen the 584 with the low profile axle and smaller tires but almost all of them here are 16.9x30 rears. The 584's all seem to have narrow front rims while the newer 585's often came with big rims and wide tires.

Never figured out the cut off year for the clunky slot style shifter, the 584 we have borrowed now has it, our old 584 had an automotive style which I presume is newer.

I think it's just timing, many 84 & 85 series means people bought new all at the same time and never replaced. A 674 used to be the BIG tractor on the smaller farms around here...

574/584 have different engines, D206 in the 584, D239 in the 574.

H shift was 1982 and newer (solid red tractor) while inline was white/red tractor (78 to 81)

384 totally different design (newer 444) and 385 was a D155 powered variant of the 484.

Tire spec depended on dealer, the wider front tires seemed to be more common in the late 80's with the 85 series.
