OT Freezing Sweet Corn

Whats the best way to get the husk hair off sweet corn. This is got to be the worst waste of time there is. Any tips on the way you do it.

My FIL froze it with the husk on. Just trimmed the base and point. The husk came off real easy after having been frozen.

We use a sweet corn brush. It does a pretty good job without damaging the kernels. It has soft bristles. Got it at WalMart. . . Google "sweet corn brush" and you'll see them.

A few days ago, somebody had a slick sounding method of getting the silks to turn loose. I'm not smart enuf to find it now.

Don't know if this works, wife just heard about it... you could try it with one ear. She said you microwave it with the husk on a couple minutes, then let cool a couple minutes. Supposedly the silks will come off with the husk. I have some ready to pick, might try it myself.

I plant Merit sweet corn. The silks pretty much come off when you shuck it. I use a vacuum pack machine and it will last several years.

I tried microwaving an ear 2 minutes with the husks on, after it cooled a bit I shucked it and there were practically no silks left on the ear. Don't know how you'd do it when doing a big volume for canning though.

Old soggy cob.Freezing corn cobs is a waste of freezer space.Sharp knife and a piece of pine with a short nail sticking thru about a 1/2 inch will hold the bottom of the cob steady while you cut the corn kernels off.Cow eats the cobs and husks.Or you can save the cobs for the outhouse.
