Rim repair?

So yeah, the fluid filled tires on my WD did a number on the rim near the valve stem... Any way to repair these either on the tractor as is, or would my only option be to take the tire and tube off and have somebody grind/weld/etc. to it?
 
Only way to fix that is to remove the tire and tube then clean and weld then what I do is paint them with truck bed lining so as to stop/sow the rust done a good many rims over the years and even a few that I was told could not be done
 
The only way is to remove the tire/tube. Then it depends on the shape of the rim how deep you have to go for a repair. If the area that is rusted is just around the valve stem then you may get by with welding a washer around the valve stem hole. On a common rim like your WD has I would only repair it if the damage is not very bad. If there is a lot of damage then just replace the rim. Good used ones can be found and new ones are available for not a lot of money for a common rim like yours is.

For rare rims I have used another rim of the same size but different mounting to cut pieces of the bead area out and weld it into the rare rim.
 
Yep, gotta remove the tire and tube or it will expand and blow when welding.
If it's just the hole, you can sometimes weld a washer as mentioned.
If the hole is too far gone, patch over it and drill a new hole elsewhere.
Say, 180 degrees away on the same lip of the rim.
If you want to put the flat spot back in, heat the rim where you're
going to put the new hole, use a square bar and a hammer to flatten.
Just make sure you grind the welds down flat and smooth inside.
 
I realize this isn't really related to your question, but I had a leaky fluid-filled tire on an H recently where the rim was rusted by the valve stem. The tire repair guy knocked the rust out of it and there was a good sized hole there. He ran 5 or 6 times around the inside of the rim with duct tape and put a patch on the brand new tube where the rusted out part of the rim was. I didn't know people did those kinds of things! Anyway, its holding for now and I'm still knocking down hay with it....

That sounds interesting. Some sort of thick rubber patch to protect the tube from puncture? Anything to cover up the rim hole, like some sort of sealant or silicone or anything?
 
It was just a regular tube patch. As for the hole, its just covered with duct tape- I can see the sticky webbing of the tape through the hole in the rim. Someday when I really need it to hold the rim shards will rub through the tape and patch. The tire guy claimed that their company did that trick many times when they didn't have a new rim handy, and that it would last several years. It will be fun to see how long it lasts......
