Flush radiator or not?

I drained old coolant, been in there too many
years on my White 2-105, then refilled with Amsoil
coolant and water. Ran a couple days and the water
pumped failed. I read directions on coolant jug
and it states to drain your coolant, add water or
flush detergent, run for 10 minutes with out cap
on, drain, then add coolant. Gonna put on new pump
today, should I follow the directions this time
before I put new coolant back in? I know years ago
when we power flushed the systems on my White and
Massey 1105 the pumps promptly failed. Also, do I
need to use distilled water?

I have never had a water pump fail after changing the fluid. What in the world would cause that? How old a pump?

i'd flush it out. i use rich's aka "old" method. drain the cooling system completely, re-fill the system with white vinegar. run the tractor with the rad cap off for about 20 minutes, shut er down and let it sit over night. next day, open the drains, put a garden hose in the rad and run the engine till it flushes clean. then drain and refill with a/f and distilled water. the vinegar is a very mild acedic acid and wont harm the cooling system.

I agree with what you said, but add another step. After the vinegar treatment, refill with water and baking soda, circulate for a few minutes, and drain. The soda will neutralize any acidity in the system. Then add coolant and DISTILLED water.

I did not know anybody else had used white vinegar. I've used commercial flushes with little results, so I completely filled my 91 Ford 5.8L with white vinegar and it cleaned the system very well.

I've used white vinegar successfully clean rusty chains.

Flushing is intended to loosen crud in the system....it flows thru the pump......crud is gritty.

Don't fix what ain't broke!.
I never change coolant unless i got to because of a failure somewhere

Lots of times when you flush and refill a coolant system the water pump will soon fail. Old mechanics trick is to add some water pump lube to the new coolant. Haven't had to change water pump since I started doing this.
