FUEL FILTER

I HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED A PLASTIC FUEL FILTER WITH PAPER IN LINE ON FARMALL TRACTOR SUPER C. THE TRACTOR WILL RUN WELL AT LOW AND HALF THROTTLE. FULL THROTTLE WILL SIMPLY DIE; WAIT SECOND, WILL RESTART AND RUN TILL FULL THROTTLE. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT MOST IN LINE FILTERS REQUIRE VACCUM TO OPERATE PROPERLY. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A FREE FLOW INLINE FILTER SYSTEM. STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL SETUP, BUT GETTING SOME SMALL TRASH.

Some of those filters are made to be used with a fuel pump, not
a gravity fed system. To see if that's the problem, just bypass it
with a piece of hose for a couple minutes.
I just use the old sediment bowl setup, make sure it has a good
screen in it and keep it clean.
If you're getting a lot of trash the tank may need to be cleaned.

The filter is simply air locking.I solved that airlock pproblem by simply positioning the filter verticle.Moumt it below the tank. the inlet on the bottom, the outlet at top.Let the filter fill with gas before attaching the outlet hose.Tractor should run fine at all speeds.

I had one on my Super C and finally took it off. I tried several different filters on it. The tractor would just quit. Then after a minute or so it would start right back up. I took it off last spring and tractor hasn't quit yet.

Filter probably has got enough fines from the tank and now is plugged some what. Get a new one or take the line coming out of that filter and see how much flow it has. Ive been using them for yrs on new to me tractors that have gas tanks that aren up to snuff the do plug just doing the job they are supposed to do. One has been used for a couple yrs still working. So now i can go to the original set-up. The tops of the gas tanks can have lots of rust and driving around gets lots of loose stuff loose and the screen in the sediment bowl doesent catch them. See lots of those filters on old tractors at shows they do their job.

Delta, I agree with you 100%. Orienting the filter so the air can purge upwards, back to the tank, is the answer.
