Working on reinstalling a taper lock flywheel on a JD 730D. What is the best way to reinstall it and make sure you have the wedge sleeve and flywheel positioned correctly on the crankshaft for flywheel end play and clearance on flywheel to starter bracket/case? Thanks for your input.

I messed around trying to set the end play by blocking the pulley end of the crank then drilled and tapped the flywheel end of the crank for a 1/2 fine threat bolt and made a sleeve to fit over the splined crank and welded a cap on the sleeve with a clearance hole for the bolt. I could then thread the bolt into the crank end and both push in on the flywheel and pull out on the crank and dial in the end play just right. With that device in place holding the end play I tightened the taper loc. I also welded up a square wrench for the taper loc hub nut with a 4' handle. I stood a piece of angle on a block with the top end engaging the teeth of the ring gear to hold the flywheel while i did the wrench and bump routine. That was a few years ago and so far so good.
