OT– Anyone here had the hernia repair with the mesh?

About 3 years ago I had a hernia on my left side and had a doctor do a arthroscopic repair with the mesh stuff. I've never really felt right ever since but figured that just part of it.

I'm having a few problems now on my left side but I'm not sure if it's from the mesh or not.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had the mesh repair and if so, have you had any problems after wards?

People suffering from ruptures travel from around the world to
be repaired at this clinic.

Had 2 repaired with the mesh and the 3 little holes. One was fixed no problem the other had contaminated mesh and infected right away.

My daughter-in-law had a mesh hernia repair. She started having odd pains, and kept going back to the doc about it. They finally cut her open again and the mesh had somehow came partially loose(?) and had gotten imbedded in her intestine. You can imagine the problems that was causing, both pain and digestive. The second (different) surgeon fixed her up right, and she's a new woman again.

That's kind of what I'm worried about. Been feeling odd ever since the surgery and now in the last month and a half things seem to be getting worse. To the point now that veins are bulging out in my left leg, I feel pressure in my side around the mesh area and having tightness and chest pains.

Waiting to either drop or make it to my 8:45 am appointment.

I had an umbilical hernia repaired March of this year, minimally invasive surgery with mesh. No problems so far. The area seems much stringer than before, now I can sneeze without having to hold my hand on my belly button.
BTW, I did hear, a few years ago something about one brand of mesh being defective.I heard it on a commercial by one of those vultures that they call "attorneys".

I had a double repaired about 20 years ago, arthroscopic with mesh. I was back to work the next day with no problems.

My dad had 1 done with mesh about 10 years ago he
had to go back and have it redone about a year later
He always complained of a pain like wires poking him
in about 6 months time he had a softball size hernia
right beside where thy fixed it and they will not do
anything with that as long as his colen keeps
working.

This is one of those times when you get a second opinion if you don't like what the original surgeon tells you. I've seen a lot of suffering because there are surgeons who can talk a good game but aren't as good with the knife.

Had one done in the late 80's and still going strong. I think it all depends on how it's anchored and to what. Mine is from waist to chest.

had umbilical fixed about 6 yrs ago with mesh no problems and agree about not having to hold stomach to cough or sneeze,

I had mesh repair of inguinal hernia about 15 yrs ago at age 35. Used conventional "cut open" not arthroscopic surgery. Dr said something like 10% failure for mesh and 30% without? I had slight pain and discomfort for at least 3 yrs on that side. And some areas of the skin are kinda numbish when pressed. I have to be real careful of pressure on a specific spot when doing certain "intimate activities".

I had 2 done at Urbana, IL several years ago. The dr knew I farmed and was diabetic but did not put mesh in. A year later one popped out and 2-3 years later the other did also. An ex army dr fixed those 2 with mesh plus another one. All has been well since except putting my infusion set for my insulin pump around the scar tissue.

Don't know anything about it, but locally there is an ad running on TV by a law firm looking for people who have trouble from mesh.

I had a large one about 15 years ago. When I say large, I mean rib cage to pelvic area down the center line. It was to repair hernia's in an incision from 34 years ago. I had some occasional burning when I turned at extremes, or sometimes when I layed on my side. after time it got less and less. It works well for me. Yes, I have been a cancer survivor for 34 years. and Yes I am bragging.

Never had a hernia, but got hit in Vietnam in 68. Had mesh in me all these years.
Never had a lot of problems, but ya never know.
Retired from the Army in 84 and it stayed put.
Drives doctors crazy. I warn them...but they always have to look.
Rode motorcycles and snow machines in the 70's and never had a problem.
