A non-rattle rain cap

Does anyone know if there is a rain cap for a muffler that does not rattle? I need a 1 and 7/8" for my 2520. Paul

Campbell's makes one. I prefer tomato myself. Other than that I don't know of any. In fact, I took the cap off one of my open tractors as it was making me crazy(er).

Short answer is no, I don't know of one that doesn't rattle.
Some folks just bend the pipe at the top to keep rain out.
(or use a 90 degree elbow if on top of a muffler)
It also keeps the exhaust from blowing stuff off the ceiling
when you first start it up.

i took my rain cop off my M farmall cut the flap and the holder off, and used it for a muffler clamp on the M .It looks like the original equipment clamp and it has not rusted.

notjustair,
Well, what a coincidence! I also have found a Campbell"s tomato soup can is the perfect rain cap! I have tried all their flavors, and the tomato can just cannot be beat. No rattle, no maintenance, no fuss....it works perfectly.

The only tractor that I have that has a rain cap that makes noise is my little AC-B gasser. I love the sound of that at a slow idle. "Ping......ping......ping......ping".

Mine on my Oliver 550 was driving me crazy, so I loosened up the clamp a little so I could just pull it off when I was running the tractor, then put it back on when I shut it down for the night. Soup can would have done the same thing, I suppose.

When I was a kid, we would sometimes start the engine with the can still on the exhaust and try to catch the can before it hit the ground - just to see if we could do it.

never heard one that didnt clang, but that being said you can experiment a little, i shaved a little off the cap on my little cub, so the counter weight is more effective,[ i guess welding a washer or nut on the counterweight would do the same thing, but its a very sensitive thing it takes very little weight to be too much then it wont close, now it stays open steady even at idle and on a cub thats not much air going up the stack at idle, it still fully seats when the engine is shut off, the other thing you can do is look at exhaust tips at a good auto parts store, what you want is a mini version of a truck stack tip not just a miter cut, but one with a slight turnout at the top before the miter cut, rain wont go in there unless the wind is blowing that direction, and you can always turn the tractor if it does

If the rain cap is like all of mine, the "weight" slides in between two other metal pieces. Just take it off, open it up all the way and drill a small hole through all three, then install it back on the tractor. It should be such a small loss that it still works like normal. But now when you want to use the tractor, just reach up there, open the flapper, and slide a little bolt through the hole, thus "locking" the flapper open. Bryce

Been listening to the clang clang sound of a tractor rain cap for so many years that I don't really notice it any longer, but if I don't hear it then it makes me think something is wrong.

Had one stick open the other day when I shut the tractor down, had over an inch of rain that night and when I started it the next morning the exhaust blew out enough black soot to cover me and the front of the tractor

Myself, I enjoy the random clicking & clanging when a tractor idles. But, that's just me :)
