4010 gas repower, options?

I`ve got some questions for the gurus around here. I have a 4010 gas and I am trying to swap everything over to diesel. Selling the 4010 and buying a diesel sound great, but geography and the limited market up here (Alaska) make that not likely. I have found a possible good deal on a 466T engine out of an industrial application, and I am wondering if it would be workable in any way. I know the 4010 will not stand up to 130+hp, but I would be willing to pull the turbo and convert it to a NA engine. Will it bolt in? Will 404 liners fit to drop the displacement to where it needs to be? I am willing to spend some money on this motor to drop the turbo and make it NA. Another option would be to put the 466 in my 4020, and put that 404 in the 4010. Any opinions?

If it was my 4010 I'd transplant the 466 into the 4010 and drive it without alteration as if it was still a 4010. Just because the HP is available as long as you don't load the tractor accordingly then I think you'll have no problems.

I agree. Just run the tractor with the same loads as before. No
need to max it out. It should be fine.

Biggest thing I am afraid of doing that is the fuel consumption. My 4440 gets quite a bit worse economy than my 4020 doing the same work. Granted, it is horsing around an extra 5000#. Also wondering about what would be needed to do the swap.

Depending on your donor engine. Might have to change
the oil pan, side rails or the front cover. Also the
turbo will be to high for the hood. But I guess you
were going to take it off anyway. Have a friend who
has one in a 4020. He used 4320 side shields and
radiator screens. Also the 4320 ex-manifold. He also
has a extra cores in his radiator. But shouldn't be
a problem in Alaska. His has 200 hp, and no trouble
with the rear end or trans.

I hope looking for less than 200hp means I won`t have to recore the radiator, because being in Alaska sure won`t. We have a short growing season, but I have yet to bale at less than 80 degrees yet this year, one day it hit 102. Where I am at we have some of the widest temperature swings in the world, -70 winters and +100 summers. I might keep the turbo if it goes in the 4020, but it seems like asking for trouble in a working 4010.

second that. it will only produce as much power as you ask of it. if you are worried about someone else asking too much of it, you could have the pump turned down so it maxes out at whatever power level you like. if the turbo is good i think i'd leave it- should be more efficient and lower exhaust temps.
