I just pulled my neighbors tractor out of the field to use it its been setting about 3 years . Bad fuel so I dumped the tanks , took off both fuel filters cleaned and put back on . Got fuel from tank to filter to injector pump but cant get it threw , took lines off pump but still wont pump . Fuel comes back from tank on return line top of injectors down to pump . need help

Just curious- why did it quit in the neighbor's field 3 years ago? And how was the fuel "bad"? Diesel doesn't deteriorate like gas, but it can get algaed up. Was that the problem?

Sounds like injector pump problems, and pump needs to go to a specialist. Most will charge less if you deliver it intact, and don't try to fix it yourself.

Just parked not farming any more . The fuel smelled really bad cant explain just didn't smell like diesel.

I used to have a 674, but thankfully, never had to mess with the pump. And never ran it out of fuel, so didn't have to bleed it!

You might put your question on the Farmall IH board- maybe someone over there knows the procedure (or has a manual he can look at).

Diesel fuel will get stale and cause internal parts to stick inside any pump, even worse if there was water in fuel when parked. The Bosch VA pump you have is no exception, most likely will have the spill and throttle plungers stuck, with control pins only broken so far. It MAY be saved if no more damage is done by inexperienced hands, very few parts are available anymore.

nshawkins,
I have never run a diesel dry, so I can't speak from experience, but I have read many times that if you need to bleed air out, that you need to bleed the system right at the injectors themselves. Just loosen the fuel line where it connects to the injector itself and crank the engine until fuel spits out.
Worth a try, and a lot less expensive than rebuilding a pump.
