Keeping the Old Stuff Working

Those old IH trucks seem to do a lot better if I use them once in a while rather than parked in the shed for years. I put the R160 to work hauling gravel this past weekend. Free gravel from my own land. All it cost was my time and a little fuel.

That was neat. I learned to drive in Dads 51 F6 Ford with steering as loose as that. When I Got to drive something with tight steering it scared Me.

Loose steering? Its funny, I am so used to it that I don't even think about it. My arms just "auto correct" when I am driving the old iH trucks. I know the king pin bushings are worn on this one though. It still trails well behind the tractor when I pull it to the gravel pit with the Vee hitch and that is the main thing. New king pin bushings are on the (long) list of things to do on that truck.

Great to see old iron at work, great vid., Thanks!

35 years ago when I worked for the county road
dept. I tried to buy an old Dodge Brothers 8 yard
dump truck they had in the bone-yard. It had the
old flathead 6 engine & heavy-spoke wheels. I
wanted to fully restore it and put it back into
service, but they wouldn't sell it. I saw it a
couple of years ago and they put it in an open-air
"museum"? and are just letting it rust away. Real
shame, it was completely intact when I wanted to
get it, now it's missing all kinds of parts.

Was not putting your truck down I love it. I drove dads old Ford and thought that's the way it was suppose to be. Dad's was a flat bed dump too. Yours sure runs slick.

rusty6,

Another great video.

How do you keep the camera from jumping all around when walking or driving?

Thanks for looking. I used to go free hand but with loose steering and no brakes I really need both hands. So I have gone to "ram mounts" The greatest little camera holder. A one inch, maybe smaller , ball and socket that is fully adjustable. I have both a clamp on ball mount and a suction mount. That suction sticks to any smooth surface and holds the camera quite solid. I've never lost a camera yet. :)

That's how you do it!!!!!

Love t see your vids! Thanks for posting a link. I love me some old IH road tractors!
