My watch has a cloth type band (velcro). It does not come off of the watch easily. A couple of days ago wile working on the tractor I managed to get my watch band wet with gas. Have tried hand washing the band with soap and water, also have placed the watch in a closed zip lock bag with baking soda, making sure the watch as covered. Still have the gas smell. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the smell, the wife is ready to throw the watch out. She hates the smell of gasoline.
Thanks,
Bill

might try using toothpaste on it, buddy of mine used it to get rid of pig manure smell, if it can tackle that, just might work for gas

I use a highly used gallon can of carburetor cleaner. Don't use new it is to strong for your hands and the seals in a watch.

Just dip the watch band into it, do not submerge it even with the highly used stuff.

Fast orange will remove the smell, and clean the band. It is also a very good hand cleaner. Carb cleaner will melt the band. Jim

Perfume. Have used a small amount of gas and/or diesel to cover scent of strange perfume, maybe the opposite will work in this case.

What the watch band needs to get rid of the gas smell is ventalation. Putting it in front of a fan will clear up the offgasing faster than anything. It still will take a while.

Take it into a jewelry store and they will have a new one on there before you can get your wallet out.

If you want to soak/wash the band or replace it, those spring loaded pins are easy to take out and put back in.

Hang the watch in a hot, well ventilated place and the gas smell should be out-gased away in a week or two.

I prefer to take the wrist band off my work watch and use it as a pocket watch.
