My Grandaughter Won the DuPage Co Fair Demolition Derby

Sarah has been tagging with the neighbors down the street for a number of years to the local derby's and wanted to race this year. A Fella gave her His old Chevy 1/2 ton with 170K miles on it and the neighbor gave her pointers in setting it up. She's a Certified farrier, so notice the safety hatch in the back window made out of welded horseshoes. She won the preliminary match with six other pickups then won the championship match with about 27 other qualifying cars and trucks!

Shame to do that to a near-bout new truck.
Looks better than most of the ones we used on our farm (and the one that the guy that tends our land has)
Classy young lady.. wish my boy could find one like that instead of those spoiled college chicks he dates.
 
Bill, that truck was in pretty sad shape. They cut most of the rust from around the wheel wells and elsewhere, put a new floorboard in and a used rear end. That thing looked like it a mosquito fogger when she got it home. Then the morning of the race she sprayed it black with a half dozen rattle cans. Not too much wasted here although it did keep going after two hard hitting races!
 
Glad to hear the good news and that she wasn't hurt. She'll have something to tell her grandkids in years to come...
 
She says Her schedule is full, but I may have some time in the fall...shouldn't take but :10-:15 minutes, right?
 
Congrats. Not to rain on your parade but you should be aware that injuries sustained while 'racing' are not covered by any health insurance policies. A friend of mine had his dad break his neck in a derby and there was no coverage. Something to think about.
 
I was wondering if that was the same granddaughter as the farrier. Then you said so. She's cut out of a little different mold huh? 'Probably somebody not to mess with......pity the poor dude that finally convinces her to be his!
