Combining Oats the Old Fashioned Way

Dad got his Massey 30 and Clipper 50 out yesterday for some fun combining oats. Sadly, they were pretty wet, but we had a blast doing what we did. Video link and some pictures. http://youtu.be/Hp8JPPaZQ2k

Nice video and pics thanks for sharing. That
little guy looks like he is havin fun with the
shovel.

Interesting video. That old Massey equipment is well preserved considering the age of it. The oat straw does look a little tough and those green weeds are always trouble.
Massey Harris tires? They knew how to build them back then. Those tires have to be maybe 60 years old?

Liked everything EXCEPT the kids riding along. I know I did it
too when their age but sure is hard to watch now. Why am I
itching all over.......LOL

Thanks for posting, we had a Clipper pt and a sp back in the day, they sure made nice oat straw. Showing the picture of the Massey tire reminded me I have the axle and hub welded into the right rear of one of my gravity wagons still doing duty.

Nice, thanks for sharing.

I can go you one better Friday I harvested a small field of oats with a JD grain binder. Spent all day yesterday stacking the bundles in shocks. Like the Amish do. Will load them when dry, on wagons for thrashing at the Blanchard Steam Show. My hands and wrists are very sore today. Sorry, I can't post some pictures.

I'll be doing like Ray, binding speltz today, if it's dry enough. I'll be using an Adriance-Platt binder that I believe dates from about 1902. It'll sit in the stook and then get run through my McD thresher.

I still want a good combine though!
