O/T Mounting a Class III Frame Hitch

Bought a used class III drawtite hitch for my 1990 Chevy 4x4 pickup. It did not have the mounting bolts. What strength bolts would you use to mount it to the frame. How about washers or steel plates on the top of the frame to spread the load any from the bolts that mount the hitch.

Go to the Draw-Tite web site and lookup your truck to find the hitch that fits it.
Once you find it you can see pictures of the hitch (to make sure you have the correct one) pictures of the bolts; washers and spacers that are needed for the install.
They will also have a link to a PDF file for the installation instructions.
These instructions are usually very detailed showing bolt sizes and grades; block sizes and where they are installed and what nuts; lock washers or regular washers you may need.

If you follow the instructions most installs go fairly easy. Some (but very few) require drilling or special nuts that are on the end of a piece of metal to reach the nut into a enclosed frame rail threw a close by access hole.

Good timing. Yesterday, I installed a new Hidden-Hitch Class 3 hitch on my Escape. It installed with 6 (grade 5) 5/8" carriage bolts, 1x3 plates with the square holes punched in, belleville washers and nuts. Instructions said torque to 50 ft. lbs.
