OT new weed eater

I just bought a 99 dollar cheapie Troy bilt trimmer and it has a centrifugal clutch instead of solid drive from the engine. Are all new trimmers idiot proofed now, or is this a special (stupid) feature?

Every one I ever used had a centrifugal clutch....

the only weedeater i've ever seen without a clutch is electric.

That's interesting, I've had two others that just had the cable straight from the engine to the head, and seemed to cut better. Maybe I just need to get used to it, or it needs to break in! Thanks for the replies.

Those ones that always spin are a pain in thick tangled stuff.

I bought a PivotTrim head for my shindaiwa. I do not like it. Lifetime supply of string my *ss. High tensil and barbed wire fence wins, always. Just bought a roll of Oregon Gatorline with a steel core. It seems to hold up a little better, but I'm still not happy.

You just need to rev it up and it'll cut just fine.
