Stump jumper removal???

Having a heck of a time trying to remove the stump jumper from my Fred Cain rotary mower. I need to replace the oil seals in the gear box.

Anyway, I have sprayed with Blaster, beat and
pried (lightly) on the stump jumper but it is not budging.

Any clues on how to remove this darned thing?

Cut the bolts off, & replace with new. A 4.5", or 7" angle grinder will do the job. Probably take 3 - 5 minutes per bolt. Less time than what You have done so far.

A cutting torch will do the job, as someone else mentioned. My woods had the opposite problem, the bolts keep comming loose up. I finally left it off. That was about 7 years ago. Stan

there are a few things that you should only buy new and change like your underwear...

Trailers for hauling equipment

Brush hogs

Tires

Engine oil

Usually those things just wear out and you can't make them new again.

Have you done a cost analysis and figured what the machine has cost you since new?

I like Shulte mowers now. The only problem is that no matter how good, you will wrap barbed wire or other debris if you aren't mowing clean.

I hope you get that thing apart. The key is heat and beat. dead blow hammers and rosebud torches are great.

Good luck

A couple of spitting wedges, tapped in on the blade holder, and a few strokes of a BFH, preferably a 10 lb plastic headed no-bounce, to the center shaft, will generally remove your stump jumper. Just remember, when it pops off, that it weighs near 80 lbs(stand clear!)

I have found it easier to drill in, and tap the housing for a grease fitting, above the lower bearing and seal (on top of the machine). Grease the lower bearing, and seal, and the seal stops leaking.

My day is probably coming were I find one I can not get off

I loosen the nut and rattle'em off with a air chisel with a hammer bit in it being careful not to damage the threads... I am batting a thousand :D

I don't repair them if they need more than a seal are two any more a new gear box is $160.00 at the local implement supply...
