Elderly Uncle

I am having a tough time tonight.

I moved my 96yo uncle to a new nursing home yesterday. They called me tonight that he is running a fever and are going to do an XRAY for pnuemonia. His wife died about a month ago and he is ready to go with her. He is sharp as a tack, but spent last few years taking care of her with dementia. They were in another nursing home together for about 9 months. The other place let him get down to 101 pounds. I went there tonight and he said he is ready to die.

Im also thinking of you both tonite. I spent alot of my childhood visiting the home and it was not always easy to do. Making your uncle comfortable and reassuring him that you love him now and forever will bring you both peace. God bless

Things will resolve. The right of passage is a very personal thing be thankful that he is clear headed enough to relay solid feelings. This too will pass. Thinking of you. Jim

had husband and wife at church, his health declined (late 80s) passed away, she started to slow and said she wanted to be with him, lost will to live, doc said not much he could do if she wasnt involved with trying to feel better, she passed a few months later, listen to him, try to understand that he wants to be home with her, praying for your family

My great-grandfather died in 1964. When they went in to tell my great grandmother that he had died, she said "Then I"ll go with him." And in 5 days she was dead. They were both in their 80"s. True love is something to behold.

Hopefully the good Lord is watching over both of you. I am sure your uncle has had a wonderful life and he is probably ready to go. Something we all don't like to think about but death is part of life.

My last uncle to pass did the same thing. Just willed himself to die. There was nothing anybody could say to talk him out of it. You don't know what somebody else is thinking or how they feel. All you can do is respect their wishes.

This the way life is.

Somehow we have decided that modern medicine can change the rules. But, obviously, it can not.

Maybe life was better when we just got sick and died rather than lying in a mindless coma for months or years while being kept alive (?) by machines.

Nature may be more humane and cause less suffering in the overall.
