706 international

So I have keeping my eyes open for a tractor and this is what I came across. Needs new front tires, and as you can see it needs a three point. Looks to me like I can attach upper arms in the spot right below the reverse light, there is kind of a dust cap right there and I am hopping there is splines underneath where I can attach upper arms. Is this correct? Also where is a good salvage yard where I can find all the stuff I need, I live in Fruita Colorado, that is about 20 miles from the Utah border in western Colorado. A few more things about the tractor. I think it is a 67. It is a gas engine, I think they cane from the factory around 75 hp ( is this correct?) . The engine oil was milky so I changed and it has been fine since, although I have not ran it a lot. Tranny had a place to check the oil and it seemed ok. Hydronic oil was really low so I added 5 gallons. Here is the real kicker got the tractor for 975 dollars!! That's about all I can think of right now, tell me what you think.

I am of no help to you as far as tracking down parts, but thats a real nice one you got! I like those old 06's. you seem to have gotten a great deal!

I would say the price was right or in your favor.

I need to ask what happen to the paint though?
Has someone tried to remove it or did they primer over it??

The guy said he bought it of his neighbor as a favor when the neighbor got foreclosed on. The guy that I bought it from told his kids if they could sell it they could keep the money. The wife and I happened to be driving by. There was no for-sale sign so my wife asked if it was for sale and they said it was so we showed up with cash in hand about a hour later.

You will not find splines under those dust caps. There will also need to be the internal cylinder, linkage and valving. It will be fairly pricey to get the external components for the 3-pt hitch. Your best bet will be to find a salvage rear end. You should post on the IH/Farmall forum for help with this one. It may be best to enjoy this one for what it is or see if there is an add on 3-pt using an external cylinder like are mounted on Hs and Ms.

I was kind of afraid someone would say that. I have been thinking of doing a external cylinder for a three point as a plan B if parts were to hard to find or to expensive. Guess it is time to make that plan A.

Tom,Im at Delta,'bout 60 miles from you.I have a Farmall 706(and about 16 other IH tractors).Your tractor it a wheatland model.your gas 'job' will develop 6o-65 horse at this altitude.Too bad you didnt post this about 2 months ago,I hauled a burned 706 to salvage. It had all the parts you needed. :( Call me if I can be of any assistance. Tom,No salvage here in west Co,unless you find a 'junker' (I 'stumble' on to one once in a while).Muth in RockyFord is the cosest. The rear end and hydralic oil are the same.I see it only has one remote...Before you go any further,BUY the book(s).Buy em right here on YT.

I dunno, doesn't look QUITE (up)right in your photo!

One of the three worst tractors I ever owned! Miserable thing made me want to put a gun in my mouth. Only tractors I ever had that could begin to compare as being as bad were the John Deere 730 diesel and 3010 diesel that I had. If somebody gave me another 706,I'd take it straight to the scrap yard. No way I'd put myself through that agrivation again.

I've owned two 706 tractors. The first(1963,282) was the worst tractor I've ever owned. The second(1967,310) is the best tractor Ive everowned.Has over 11,000 hrs.Owned it for 29 years-still got it(never sell it!)Started farming in '78 with a 730D.Also one of the best,Definitly the most fuel efficient of all.Never spent any time around a 3010.

Ya,my 706 was an early round fender 282. It went to the salvage yard as a parts doner. I had a real late 1960 730 electric start. Fuel efficient yes, dependable, not on your life.

If it runs good and you need it I'd add the 3 point, but you'll likely spend as much adding the 3 point as you paid for the tractor. Not exactly a bad thing considering how cheap you got it.
