Some thoughts on the Royal baby that Sam posted about!!

I wish Prince William and Kate Middleton all the best on the birth of their first child. In some ways I feel sorry for them. Yes they have money and never want for anything but they also live in a fish bowl. They and their children will be swarmed their entire lives by NUTS wanting pictures an such of their every move. Think about how stifling that would be???

I never thought much of Prince Charles. He seemed a stupid, venal man. He never inspired much of anything but contempt. His only good move was marring Diana. She seemed like a great person that the whole Royal treatment destroyed. They did have two Great young men for sons.

Both of these young men have and are serving their country in military service. That sure differs from the "leaders" we have today.

I was really impressed by Prince Harry's actions during his visit earlier this year to Arlington and Washington DC. This picture of him among the graves just shows a CLASS ACT!!! Much better that most of our leaders currently.

Here is what Prince Harry said after HE laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier.

“To my comrades-in-arms of the United States of America, who have paid the ultimate price in the cause of freedom. Captain Harry Wales,”

Hear our leaders say that with any real feelings lately????

England is not the world power she once was but there is hope with fine young men like William and Harry as future leaders.

It is good that they serve their country and honor those before them by doing so and by genuinely doing things like in your photo above, you just hope its not a facade for show to feed the media.

The media, I just don't get its an elevated form of prostitution, that feeds like a cancer off anyone with notoriety, to provide a fanatical sector of the public that for some reason needs tabloid trash generated by practically any kind of event, happening or the slightest moment that will sell and support the pimps of the media.

None of it makes any sense or has any purpose in life.

I worked in NYC for 15 years and in that time I have ran into many celebrity types, actors and so on, and I have never understood the fuss made over another human being, just because they are portrayed by the media, or because they are entertainers, generally very successful and likely to never have any wants like you say. I don't pay much attention.

I bumped elbows with Chevy Chase at lunch time a at great little Italian place where I enjoyed a reasonably priced lunch, always a nice "Insalata" (sp). The owner of the restaurant was meeting with a vendor at a table, and while doing so, he insisted on making sure his person behind the counter took care of Mr. Chase, as he had no idea who he was, the owner was just being polite and being good to another customer, and showing a little recognition, but never left his seat and continued with his meeting. The food was excellent here, I was glad to have a place nearby and reasonable given the busy schedule. Chevy ordered a cappuccino, and he politely kept asking the man at the counter for sweet and low, that's why the owner made sure his not so well speaking english help a the counter gave Chevy what he wanted. Chevy was bumping elbows with me at the condiment counter, I never said a word because I knew the guy probably like any one of us, was just trying to have a cup of his favorite "mud" be on with his day. He went outside and was sort of staring into space a bit, observing the large building were working on, and disappeared into the scenery without anyone noticing, that was pretty cool given what it could have been with some irritating reporters or rude fans etc.

I sometimes wonder how many of our leaders have been to those grave sites. When I was there before I went overseas I thought it was a real sobering place something that I will never forget.

Old saying about fathers & sons,"small boys become big men through influence of big men who care about small boys." Sometimes media portrayal of royalty is not always an accurate picture of their real life. The media may show only what they think will sell. One or the other of either Prince William or Prince Harry just finished pilot certification & flight training of the most sophisticated state of the art attack helicopter in the world similiar to our AH-64's.With the money they have they would not have had to do anything like that. But someone put motivation in them or they had some smarts and drive and skills developed to want to accomplish something that extraordinary.Very, very few individuals would ever have completed pilot training and solo a modern aircraft like that without something on the ball upstairs.

It is sad that Prince Williams mother,Diana, will never experience the joy of being a grandparent.I am sure he feels the same way.

They seem like nice likeable men not snobbish as one might think royalty might be and have honored their country with their service. At least they know what end the bullet comes out, unlike our pres. Best wishes to the royal family and their most recent addition. Long live the UK!

That is something to appreciate, and I don't care if you are royalty or what, to achieve a complicated objective like that and be part of something that is instrumental in military operations, all voluntary, if I understand correctly. I wonder what their influence was, there is nothing fake about that. Harry did a brief combat tour in Afghanistan with a price on his head, and of course given his background, had to be difficult, even if he strongly opposed any special treatment, besides extra security, trusting that you are not exposed to an enemy frothing at the mouth just knowing he's in the country and a high level target. I would hope it was not a media stunt, even if it was, it took some courage to stand in the same shoes as the other soldiers, with all the hoopla, at least like JD says, this aspect is something seemingly respectable.

Not to sound like an old grouch (which I am sorta lol Ive earned it) I dont really give a hoot if someone across the pond had a baby or didnt have a baby (other then sure, I hope all is well for anybody anywhere that has one) it really doesnt affect me and my family one single bit. I dont know them personally and they dont know me, and my life will probably go on just the same regardless. My priorities in life are God Family and Country (and some so called royality in England just didnt make the cut, they're no better then myself far as I'm concerned).

I'm kinda like the guy in the Jimmy Buffett Song......

"....writing his memoirs loosin his hearing, but he dont care what most people say...."

I think Leslie Nielsen spoke for all us Americans when he played Lt Frank Drebin in the movie Naked Gun 33 1/3, The Final Insult. He was in charge of security for the Queen as she attended a LA Dodgers baseball game. He said "no matter how ridiculous the idea of having a Queen seems to us Americans we will be respectful and generous hosts ".

I agree with you and dboll and such. Poor Diana was a very young girl pushed into the spot light. While she had flaws of her own, she did her very best to raise the boys as "normal" people.
The military service performed by these Royals distinguishes them from the lazy spoiled offes we expect of royalty.

John T.....and Dan...I am sorry if I ruined your day with the good news....At least the rest of us can be happy for the young couple. I thought both of you would be old enough to not believe all the gutter-snipe journalism about this family and look at the good they do for tourism in the Commonwealth and the British Isles....never mind the morale boost the princes have given our forces and the hidden charitable work that none of you will ever know about!
Sam

Why do you expect royals to be lazy spoiled "offes" (do you mean oafs?)? Look at the Queen. Her service to Britain in WWII is legendary (though brief and probably inconsequential). Look at the royals in other parts of Europe. I'd say the majority are pretty decent folks, the type I'd be pleased to sit down and have a beer with.

No problem Sam, my day is fine you couldnt ruin it because the fact that they had a child or didnt makes absolutely no difference to me. I owe my allegiance to God Family and Country NOT to some celebrities. I honor and worship God and my OWN Family NOTTTTTTTTTT celebrities.

Im just fine Sam, you needent worry aobut me but thanks for your concern and apology, youre a good man, best wishes n God Bless you and yours

Just too bad that Leslie Nelson was a CANADIAN!!!

I can't believe the British people still allow their government to spend billions of dollars supporting a family that doesn't have anything to do but flaunt their wealth as supposed "embassitors" to the world. If the royal family was out on the street tomorrow, Britain would still be here.

Last time i looked, the Royal Family cost less than one pound (about $1.50) per person per year (in the UK). think that is pretty good value for money.

And the Queen pays more in tax than she gets from the Government, and doesn't own anywhere near what people think she does (despite being the wealthiest woman out there). She is also head of state of 15 other sovereign Countries in the world (for no extra charge).

Leslie Nielsen was a naturalized American Citizen. Not only was he as much as American as you or I am, He was a true gift.

Sam;
You ought to be happy for the baby. It means hope & that is something the world needs. Both of Diana's boy's seemed to turn out well and I hope the best for this child.

Don't pay any attention to the fellers that don't appreciate the joy a child brings.

Problem is the royal family has no real power. I just can"t stand the media attention they get. But it"s better than most of the celebrities on this side of the pond who have never really contributed anything to society besides some really bad movies or really bad "music".
