Made no money today!

Today was useless as far as putting bread on our table was
concerned.....Yesterday (Sunday) evening I got a call from my
neighbour.......Long story!
Our preacher left our church to go live with another church
and in the interim period the church members use the time to do
improvements to the preacher's house. The House had been fully
modernised about 6 years ago so it needed nothing but the last
preacher was (fat and) lazy when it came to taking care of the
grounds around 'his' home....always used the excuse he was
leaving some for the wildlife!. So the members decided to tidy up
his lawns...They pulled some trees and the front hedge and
erected a nice wooden fence. One member then rotavated the
rough area. This was lying in a kind of a mess all worked down
fine but uneven....So, in church yesterday morning it was
announced that we needed volunteers to rake it all level. I was
summoned yesterday evening to grade and level the area in
preparation for the raking team this evening. Had to delay all my
plans for today, as we have thunderstorms forecast for
tomorrow. Spent all morning grading and levelling and the
afternoon cutting back the hedgerow around the perimeter, and
this evening I had to go and hand rake the whole thing....plenty
of people there with rakes but couldn't use them!
Guess it is a freebe as I cannot really bill the church?

Hope it doesn't mean I have to spend eternity clipping hedges and raking lawns! LOL

I am facilities manager for my church, which means that I am the one that has to raise the raking crew. I want to put down some new lawn late this summer. So I do the heavy prep work with my equipment, try to entice the guys by cooking breakfast, and hopefully we get an adequate number of rakers.

I know what you're saying. I worked on a few golf courses and had to rake sand traps and also when laying sod. Later when I was doing landscaping and people wanted to help, it made for more work for me because they couldn't rake an area level if their life depended on it. Using a landscape rake, forget it. Were they trying or just watching you do it?

I'm retired or just quit working for money. Seems everyone thinks I do nothing. Been thinking about going back to work, more time off.

I had a small off shore boat, I could go out fifty miles, I now own a place with a river on the South side, haven't been fishing in several years????

So, Samm, it's going to worst.

Well.Sam, they say that you will be rewarded for your efforts. Kinda makes you wonder what's in store for those who did little. I once volunteered quite freely at community fund raisers etc. But I got tired of doing all the work and someone else getting all the kudos.

As long as you are able and willing to do the work, people will stand back and let you do it. When I was chairman of the congregation, I would wait until soneone complained - and then I would appoint them to see that the problem got corrected. Afte a few incidents of that, there were very few complaints!
