Joan's youngest boy was going to bring some of his rugby team
down from college for a cookout Friday night. 70 miles or so.
He had a flat tire, called to say they'd be late, then called 30 minutes
or so later and said the factory doughnut spare would not fit on the car.
So mom took him one of his "summer" tires and rims to use to get here.
The summer tires are worn out, so he wasn't using them.
They made it here in time to have dinner at 9 p.m.
When they left they took mom's car and she took his to the tire
store Saturday morning. All four were shot. $415.
They did an alignment and said it also needs a wheel bearing
and ball joint. I just replaced them about two years ago.
While the car was at the tire store, they put the driver's side
electric window down and it would not go back up.
We put it in the garage for Saturday night since it was
sprinkling. I hoped it would rain. Should have left it out.
Today I took it apart and found that the motor was the culprit.
No parts available on Sunday, so I disassembled the window
motor, cleaned the commutator and brushes, put it back together
and rolled the window up. This "magic" apparently bewilders college kids.
I then unplugged the motor so it wouldn't get rolled down again.
So they headed back to the campus today, got almost there and
the car died at a stop sign. Would not roll over.
I took my tractor hauler up there, winched the car up on it new tires and all,
gave them a ride home and brought the car back home with me.
I told him welcome to the world of car ownership, wait 'til you buy a house!
Guess I'll try to look at it tomorrow. Battery's on the charger.
