Garden Fungicide

My squash are getting a little mildew. I am planning to spray them with fungicide. Anything I should look out for?

My wife makes her own garlic tea - put crushed garlic in water for a few hours so it mixes well - strain it through old panty hose. Put it in spray bottle and spray it on the squash and on the plants. Repeat after rainfall. Or you can purchase "Plant Guardian" from Gardens Alive.

Larry, sprinkle Cayenne Pepper on the plants or Diatomaceous Earth sprinkled on the plants - both of these, sprinkle well around the base but keep off of the blooms. Another option is to purchase a product called "Pyola" from Gardens Alive.

You can cut the stem open where the vine is soft that will be the grub is, just slit it open and take them out. There will be three or more, then close it up and cover with dirt and hope!! If you don't get them out they will die.

never had much luck once they got to point of wilting, tried splitting vine open, dig out worm, then pour dirt at differnet locations on vince to re root, never worked. Have had luck after planting reverse duct tape sticky side out, loose enough to allow for vince growth and paint with tanglefoot to catch beetle in before the bore and lay the eggs

I use a copper sulphate wetable powder. Works good. Have also heard you can use a gallon of whole milk mixed with a gallon of water, then spray it on.

As far as any professional products go, you might have to buy them in 2.5 gallon jugs and it may be cost prohibitive for a small garden. I use Dithane and I've heard other people say Headline works although it's not labeled for squash. Same thing for cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, watermelon, etc. If you have other crops you can use it on you could justify the expense. But you really need to spray before the mildew becomes a problem. You can't reverse the damage but you can suppress it.
