Barn roof coating

The roof on my barn is corrugated galvanized sheet metal. It is mostly rusted now after years of rain and sun. Anyone know of a coating I can paint on it to give it a few more years of life? Thanks Stan

I have used Cenpeco fiber coating aluminum on my bins that has worked better than anything else. They spray wash them and then paint. Works good on rusty surfaces.

I will second the Cen-pe-co coating as being great. I have used it on rusty metal and it holds up for years after that. It is not cheap but much less than replacing the metal.

I used about 5 different kinds, 5yrs ago. I used plain old oil based barn paint on the worse rusted stuff.....today that looks the best. I figure the life cycle should be 10yrs. I would go longer but I don"t wanna let it get as bad as when I started. Sherwin-Williams, special paint, it had me sanding the rust; is the worst!

Somewhere in the past couple of years, on this forum, there was a response to a metal roof painting question that said the absolute best metal roof paint was spread satin, that when the sun baked it it was as good as the painted metal roofing you can buy.

Does anyone else remember this?

As I write this, I am looking at a metal roof painted about five years ago with high dollar Pittsburg roof paint. It's pealing in lots of places.

We used to use Zinc Oxide (PPG). Very good, very expensive. Five or six years ago I painted a very rusty galvanized roof with a similar paint from Home Depot. Has held up so far.

I get about 15 years out of fibred aluminum roof coating that I apply with a broom. Don't put it on thin.

I have used the fibered aluminum roof coatings on mine. Put it on with push broom type brush and don't try to brush it out too thin. It lasts for 10-15 years for me here in Michigan. Hotter is better when you put it on.

You might try the rubber based Elastomeric Mobile Home Roof Coating, you flow it on with a squeegee or soft bristled push broom. Seals any leaks and forms a large, one piece rubber sheet on your roof. Comes in Silver or White and lasts about 15-20 years.
