John deere 2010 3 point hydraulics

I have a 1964 John deere 2010 and the hydraulics for the 3 point hitch are slow. I'll put the lever up for the arms to raise and it takes about 5 seconds for them to respond. I just filled it with tractor hydrullic fluid and it really didnt have any effect. There is a lever with notches on the left side of the seat labeled D, LD, L. I think this has something to do with it because when i moved the lever to LD, the arms went up and wouldn't go down. If any one could tell me what that lever did and why the 3 point is so slow, I would really appreciate it, thank you.

Many many years ago, my neighbors 3010 3 point was very slow. His manual showed a priority valve and when we took it apart, metal shavings were causing it to stick. He has never had another problem after cleaning.

Been a long time but if I remember right D is for draft, L is for load, and LD is load and draft. Had to do with pulling a plow and other ground engaging tools.

The "D" means depth or position control
The "L" is for load/draft (plowing)
the "LD" is a combination of the two. It is actually where you usually plowed.

You MIGHT be lucky and just need to adjust the three point control valve/linkage but I would bet that the hydraulic pump is going bad. The hydraulics on a JD 2010 where not very good when they where new.

The hydraulic pump CAN be serviced up through the bottom cover but it is usually just about as fast to split the tractor there to get to it. The steel lines are a real bear to get to up inside the housing.

Get yourself a factory service manual and adjust the three point control valve/linkage before you do anything else. If you have a good JD dealer they can just make you a copy of the few pages needed for the adjustment.

IF you are planning on keeping the tractor I would buy a factory service manual. There are several good companies selling a copy of the factory manual. This site has one for sale for $99.99. This would be good money spent if it saves you buying parts you may not need.

The JD 2010 is an odd ball that is serviced and adjusted different than just about any other JD tractor. I find myself having to use the manual a lot when working on one.

Good luck!! I hope the problem is simple one but on the JD 2010 it usually is not simple.

Have you changed or cleaned the hyd screen filter? That is where i would start. I have had similar symptoms and found the screen filter to be the culprit. In my case the filter was allowing enough flow for the power steering but not the other hyd functions. The filter is avail from deere but will run either $40 or $150 depending on the type you have. If you want to clean the filter you will need large amount of solvent of some sort degreaser and hot water. It is a pain but it can be done.

Yes, do as Paul suggest and if still slow clean the priority valve (rounded cover with shiny nut early cover, later covers are flat)behind the 3/8 line in the picture..

If you have no idea what L,LD and D indicate. You desperately need an operators manual.1-800-522-7448
Given that the 2010 is still considered JD's star problem child 50+ years later. Diesel 2010's doubly so. You may also consider getting rid of the turkey.
