SW Pa (John_PA, Fullers Farmalls, and others)

Just curious how many other guys from SW Pa...Washington, Greene, Allegheny, any others.

My family"s farm is in Washington County near Marianna/Lone Pine,

John_PA...that"s us with the red brick farm house and the big red barns...I"m around most weekends (and evenings) March- November. My parents live there. It nice to have Briggs just down the road from us, they"ve come through in a pinch more than once.

Spot on about Briggs Tire. They have been there for us many times as well. I am between Rt 40 and Lone Pine.

There are quite a few guys on here from SWPA. I think the closest user to me is "longear." He has Oakdale, PA in his address, but he is actually in Federal, or "Presto Heights" as I like to call it. hahaha


At some point I seem to remember a few guys on here who were from out in Westmoreland County.

Fullers Farmalls is out near the Wyotech campus I believe.


I would say the biggest reason there are so many guys on here from this area is because there are no more farms here. There used to be a Farmall/IH dealership, a John Deere dealership, an Oliver dealership, and a Minneapolis Moline dealership JUST in Burgettstown, PA. Now, there is nothing.

Up until a few years ago, there were a few JD, Ford New Holland, Case IH dealerships in this area I could choose from. Now, they are all gone. There isn't a CaseIH dealer anywhere around here at all. The New Holland dealer, Bull International, used to be an International dealership, then a Case IH dealer. Now, he is just New Holland, but he sells Case IH parts.

Almost everyone around here considers their 40 year old tractor to be the "newest."

There are a few exceptions, but, for the most part, almost all the small farms are gone. The old tractors are just scattered everywhere around here, though. The old stuff is really easy to find around here. If I want a steel wheeled grain drill, or a 6 foot disk or cultipacker, I don't have to look far. In fact, I still pull a Massey Ferguson #33 grain drill (my "new" grain drill) around with it's trip rope lift. That hydraulic stuff is just way too fancy for me! :wink:


Right now, in Allegheny County, PA, there is only 1 producing dairy farm left in the entire county. He is the last hold out, and his family used to own a Case dealership. He has some amazing Case stuff.

There is a lot of urban sprawl going on.

I'm always glad to see someone out working the little bit of land that is left.

That is a beautiful farm up on the hill. That house is really a piece of artwork. It looks so original from the outside. Lots of people destroy the original "gingerbread" when they remodel older houses, but that one still has all the great character to it. I was VERY impressed with that farm the first time I saw.

I am out of Butler Cty, about half way between Butler and Kittanning, but I also have a place in Westmoreland and a small place in Jefferson Cty.
