Hi Guys,

6pm and opening up the 4th field of the day.

Disc is sittin' right square atop one of the few rocky areas I must contend with.

The welding on the disc gang seems to be holding tho.

Not a tree in sight! What a difference from Michigan. I would have loved to have seen the prairie when the country was new. No wonder pioneers were overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing a gorgeous landscape.

Allan,
Did you get all your alfalfa baled and secure?
Hope your disk withstands the rock impacts.
A rock pile would really stand out like a sore finger in your field ;-)

Here, in The Netherlands, our alfalfa yielded three cuts in a good year (40 years ago). It was never baled as hay. Instead, it was dried in a large (coop) drying facility and then ground or pelletized for sale as specialty feed. It is still being done, although on a much smaller scale because of the (energy) cost.

I was going to say that if that's all the rocks he has he don't have much to worry about. lol

I wish my rock piles looked like that :) Can we trade?

This is what I get to contend with.... and this is not a real bad field. Not a good one either... but mabey average.

Whut rocks? I have places the planter will barely put seed in the ground, and then on an irregular basis. That's why Rocks Ridge is an appropriate name for this place.....

Run that through the bottom field here, you'll here rock clanging noises til you wake up the next day ! So will the neighbors, it was a familiar sound for years.

Farmer friend bought a new 637 JD disc in '08 or so and I am not sure what the different grades of these are, especially the disc pans, but they were really heavy, extreme service or some darned thing, a must have in glacial till, it was not that far away from something rome plow or atlas made for crawlers, I never saw one with those thick disc's, it sure cut corn trash nice though.

Allan I have to agree with showcrop on this one. I count 14 rocks. As far as High Plains Sand goes that is fairly rocky, for my area that is a Dream. Anyway had to HooRaw you this morning. I do the Love the view!!!! You can see the Neighbors and Next Week coming.

If you think you have rocks, check this out. This field is 27 Acers ans sets one one countinuous rock. In the first pic. if you look to the far corner of the field you can see the top of a rock pile. Second pic. is where the two 4' high piles were.
last week the 50 yr. old piles were used to repair the farm roads after all the flooding. The top soil is 0nly 14" deep in the best parts of the field. It grows great Alfalfa on wet years, but nothing grows on a dry year like last, except where the crevises are.

The only time I see flat land like that is when I go to the desert. You know when you got rocks when you need to use a crowbar to pry a rock out from between the blades, or bust it with a large hammer. I always carry both. Stan

Still have 'bout 20-25 acres before I'm done with alfalfa and start on the grass hay.

Was out there at 4 this morning and baled 13 bales before the sun came up and I noticed that they were way too wet.

Last night at 7 the windrows were crispy dry too. Way sloppy dew last night.... :>(

Impossible to use that method with our disk. I go to the field with a log chain to wrap around the rock after I back up to a power pole or tree.

I think you'll find that's the edge of the field, and he's disking at an angle so that it's easier to see where he's been when he comes through with the drill.
