Ford County 1164

This is a bit of a long shot but just thought someone might know. Ive just looked at a Ford County 1164 without 3 pnt for sale, I would want to convert it 3pnt if I were to buy it. The early 1164 models had a Ford 5000 rear end while the later ones had a Ford 7600. Are there any readily identifiable features of either rear end that would allow me to decide if its the 5000 or the 7600. Identifying which would help me decide if I want it or not as parts for the 5000 may be more readily available than the 7600.
Thanks
Bill

Those bigger Fords are a little above my paygrade.
On the smaller ones though the older 2/3/4000 series had a single lift handle for the 3 point where as the newer ones - 26/36/4600 series had dual handles for the lift. If the larger tractors are the same the single/dual lift handles would be one quick way to tell one series from another.

Hi Bill, you should be able to find your answers a lot nearer home. Try googling Scottish County Tractor Club for your infomation. MJ

76/7700 rear ends as Ford applications always had load monitors although that may not be the case in a County application...
Other external differences.... the x600 chassis will have an external hydraulic oil filter above the main hydraulic pump. The 5000 will only have an internal suction strainer.
The only real practical difference is that the 7600 should have an extra brake plate on each side and a 540/1000 stub shaft PTO vs the fixed 540 shaft on the 5x00 tractors. Otherwise the axle is basically identical as far as I know...
