just got thru following a 20ft gooseneck loaded with a JD450 dozer being towed by all things,a damm Tundra...i stayed behind him about a 1/4 mile...he was swerving so bad i didnt dare try and pass...i like Toyota's but theres a time and a place and that aint it!!!

Saw a similar thing, a while back.. Same 450 JD, on a Hudson trailer, behind a Ford pickup,1/2 ton.. To top it off.. no electric brakes, it was an airbraked trailer....

I just saw a Mazda mx3 towing a cat skid steer through a parade with cops leading the way little kids running in and out of the street picking up candy

I beg to differ. I've owned GMC's, Chevies and a couple of Dodge "trucks", including a 1 ton K3500.

My last one was a 2007 GMC K2500 Sierra.

I just traded that rusting gas guzzler for a 2013 Tundra. Mister, that Toyota half-ton is more truck than that GMC ever thought of being. Rides better, tows better, handles better and gets better mileage (17 vs. 14 and it ain't broke in yet)

And if my last Toyota car is any indication, it's a heck of a lot better protected from rust.

AND? That's supposed to make it safe to pull a JD 450? DOT cops catch you that's an expensive fine.

I wish that were the case Rusty...I"m a firm believer in American built, but two people I have lots of faith in have reported the following:
One buddy is the maintenence manager for a large landscape concern in Ithaca, NY; says they are running all Toyota Tundras now (Kubota too but thats a different argument) as the maintence (other than scheduled stuff) is almost "nil". He said they have a couple that are getting pretty long in the tooth and have never had anything except scheduled maintenence. Says the closest any of the other brands came was Ford, and that was the F250s doing jobs that they are doing with Tundra 1/2tons now.
My Brother was svc Mgr at a Chev/Toyota dealer for years before recently moving to a Dodge/Ford dealer. Told me that for the average guy, the Chevy would probably be the way to go as they head incentives that made them significantly less expensive, but if you were towing/hauling alot, or using it in your business as a work truck, Toyota was the way to go as "we just don"t have to work on "em much!" Then he took me out in the shop and said what do you see? I saw several Chebbies on racks, and one Toyota getting new tires!

There are any number of fools out there towing loads with F350s that should never be attempted too! As far as Toys, I ran 2 of them over 300K and the Toy, the little one, was more truck than my F150. It just was. It was sure better built too. I wouldn't hesitate to get another. But I wouldn't be trying to haul something no pickup of common size ever should. As a former DOT guy, I've seen some truly mind boggling stuff over the years.

my favorite add,, most people never realized that toyotas only providing a place to put the operator and control box for the trailer the trailer itself is doing all the moving work hydraulicly , they do make good trucks though, my dad always drove them, i didnt fit inside so stuck with detroit iron, after my last new truck 15 years ago i traded back to good trucks from the 70's and 80's, they dont have factory cup holders, but they sell those at walmart what i know fromthe day and was reminded of when i fixed a few dents , it the metal on these old rigs is nearly twice as thick, one reason there still around,

Whatever it takes to get the job done, right?

I thought we didn't pick on working people for doing stupid things because they were getting the job done...

I didn't say that.

I'm not an idiot.

I wouldn't tow a 450JD with any truck I've ever
owned. That's a load for a dump truck with air
brakes.

Hey, Hey yah! Didn't yah cee the commercial of the Toyota towing the space shuttle. If it can tow that, an itty-bitty ol jd450 is noting mor an chiken feed. sic' Jesus wood hav drivn one himself'''

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Nope, if they are doing something that puts others at risk then I say something. If they are doing something that is going to get only them hurt I could care less. Guy towing something that heavy with a 1/2 ton truck is a danger to everyone else on the road and therefore pretty stupid and uncaring.

Ya we got 1 of the darn things in the shop now, musta been the 1 pulling the shuttle, tranny is out again, gonna cost 4000.00+ for the only 1 in the state + labor only 60 day warentee, sure a great -----

In the mid 90's my dad and I bought a 21 ft triax flat bed to haul antique tractors. My dad, concerned about overloading called the Mich. St police. they said "You cannot overload a pickup. If its on a safe trailer attached to your pickup, we have no jurisdiction over your load. Have a nice day."

I'd check on that again. Here in MN they are doing roadside DOT's on certain pickups, ones with business logo's and farm tags. I seen a homeowner get ticketed for an unsecured load hauling branches after a storm to the land fill. DOT fines are pretty harsh and the state can make a bunch of money from em. Plus there is a sticker on the door post that has a max gross weight on most pickups. It has more to do with the ability to stop than what the truck can pull.
