Just picked up this R2Cat dozer to clean up some fence rows. I don't know much about them, but the owner says there weren't many made?

I don't know about the numbers, but I see plenty on the Cat collector sites. The gas models were pretty popular back in the day. Rarity can be a good thing or a bad thing.

If the undercarriage is in good shape it should work fine for you. If it's not in good shape, you just bought a money pit.

Check out the ACMOC.org website. The site is run by the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club.

Just watch that the tracks don't pick up a bunch of wire. Five minutes of wire winding up in the track can cause you a half day (or more) of work to cut the wire out.

They made 1150 and 1185 or so of each serial number run, wide gauge is 6J and narrow gauge is 4J series.

I can't tell judging by the photos, but Dick made a good point you don't want wire wrapping up around the sprockets, possible it can destroy final drive seals if it works into there, I think it was prevalent with tractors that have bellows type seals, not familiar with R2's or the next series D2's so don't quote me LOL !

They are collectible, given how many left and 2200 or so produced, some did military service, I have seen examples with LeTourneau cable operated dozer kits in the past.
