I read and old post from a senior member joemckna
dated back a few years. He restored a SS 14. I noticed the 14 hp briggs had a fuel pump. My 14 hp does not have this. Whats up, my tank runs down hill to the carb with an inline filter and shut off valve. It has a large 2 pc Flojet.

Engines with the fuel tank mounted higher than the carburetor simply did not need the pump, so they didn"t use one. on applications where the tank was mounted below the carburetor, a pump was needed and used. many were pulse operated from the crankcase. SOme ran off a lobe on the cam shaft, and others now are electric.
