Both sides of the float have been pushed in by freezing water in the bowl. One side has a crack about an inch and a half long. I have not found the hole in the other side yet, but it must have one, because I can hear something in it. I think I remember that some people have soldered them. I am open to all suggestions.

I have never had any luck solder a float due to the fact most of the time it adds to much weight for it to work as it should. If you can buy a new one your by far better off

Since it is crushed and has a 1.5 inch long split in it, you are far better off buying a new float. You will waste a lot of time trying to fix that one and when you are done, it still may not work.

i've pushed sides out in damaged floats by immersing them in water till they're full and freezing them over nite...the split side on yours will be the easiest...mite take a few tries...as far as soldering you can't put dirt dauber beads on the float...just enuff to seal.

If you can resolder a float and get it to work, you get Sainthood with the Pope as you have your miracle.

I agree that getting a new one if you can is the sure-fire way but I have fixed a few - I soldered up the splits and then drilled a small (3/32 ?) hole in one side and popped the crush out with a [b:e6db9daff3]wee[/b:e6db9daff3] bit of compressed air and a rubber-tipped air nozzle - seems like I remember that after soldering the drilled hole shut the solder would get sucked back into the float as it cooled - keeping the rest of the float warm until the solder set up solved that (MOST of the time) ...... Good Luck to ya!

Thank you, one and all. I will attempt to repair this one. Only because I might learn something useful. When that fails I will spend a few dollars for a different one.
