Construction looks very similar to the barn I grew up with, but
ours did not have any additions.
I'll have to see if I can find some pictures of the old barn.
Ours was moved from a stone foundation to a cement foundation
about 150 yards away about 70 years before it was torn down.
I think it was close to 150 years old.
The wooden ladders in our barn had square rungs, wore round from use.
I can't tell if those in the pictures did or not.
Great memories! Thanks for the pictures!

Great picture,
Looks just like my barn.Funny story, I had a dog one time disappeared for two days. We looked everywhere . 2nd day we could hear her barking went into the barn she wasn't there. Went outside and could hear her barking. Went back into the barn and looked up. She was standing on the very top beam in the far corner 20 feet up. I guess she chased a coon up the hay and out onto a beam , then she couldn't turn around. I had to get an extension ladder to get her down. She ran straight to the pond and drank for 5 minutes.

Larry,
These are great pics of the haybarn. I wish my barn was in that great of condition. Just think about the hard work and the dedication/workmanship the people of days gone by
put into these big barns and how they have stood the test of time against mother nature. When I was a youngster, my grandparents' dairy barn was built this way also with a drive in haybarn. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

You know what's really embarrassing? You are out dancing with the better half, really tearing the place up, not just the other couples are watching you, but even the people sitting down are, and some of them are even pointing and chuckling. Even though you've gained a few pounds and bulges over the years, that guy in Saturday Night Fever had nothing on you. You know that everyone is in awe and envy until some guy comes up and whispers, "Excuse me, the women at our table all noticed that your barn door is open, all were too embarrassed to tell you, so they elected me to tell you". And being as cool as you can, you whip a spin into your dance routine that allows you to zip your barn door closed while facing away from everyone one, and when you finsih your spin towards the crowd and tables, everyone claps, cheers, and yells "Thank you". That...is embarrassing.

Your barn door is open, and all looks well...in your barn.

Nice solid looking barn. Every time I see a hay barn full of hay I think of fire. I know it doesn't occur often and usually due to neglect, or something accidentally overlooked, but having almost set mine on fire once just scares the bejeebers out of me.

Very similar to what my barn would look like if it were empty. Add a thresher, a grain binder, my drill, stored lumber and building supplies, an outboard or two, 3 families worth of collected junk, old clothing, broken implements, all the kids winter sleds and stuff, a awful lot of broken bales, string, pigeon poop, the old hay rake or fork........

Like I said, if it were empty!

There is just something special about old barns! I love to hear stories about them and who worked in them and what lived in them. The pictures are great.
