How long does it take to mow five acres?

It is mostly flat, brush has not been mowed in a couple years. Mostly broadleaf weeds vs grass.

If you don't have too many things to steer around and have to stop and turn around a lot you should be able to mow that in 2-3 hours tops.

I bill by the hour. Bids per acre, if they insist
are at 2 acres per hour with a 15 foot mower. 55.00
per acre or 110 an hour. Always, always works out
cheaper for the people who just want to pay off the
hour meter. Usually about 3.5 acres per hour.

My guess would be 5 to 6 hours. Might be a little more if the weeds and grass is heavy. I use a five foot woods mower under my Allis C and running wide open in second gear it takes a little over two hours to mow three acres of yard. I only have two trees in the front yard and make sure I mow one side of the mower dead center of the tree so I just jog around them without slowing down.

I mow about 4 1/2 acres with the same as what you have (35 w/ 5' mower first gear in high range about 1500 rpm) every two to three weeks. It takes about four hours. About one half hour of that is mowing the county right of way for about 450 feet in front my big spread. TDF

When I bid a job for mowing, the people hardly never want me to charge by the hr. I always bid by the job. This works out gret for me. Almost double the price I would have charged by the hour. There are a couple discing jobs I charge by the hour. I know they time me. That's how I got the job the other guy was charging for his linch time. Stan

ell, well, Chuck, you might as well have guessed........I mean with estimates from 2 to 6 hours. Bet you could have hit that!

If you drive 4 miles per hour times 5280 feet per mile times 5 feet wide divided by 43,000 square feet per acre you get your answer. Which is about 2.5 acres per hour if the mower covers uncut grass the entire hour. Probably more like 2 acres per hour at 4 miles per hour.

Simple formula for field capacity. Mph x width divide by 8.25 equals theoretical field capacity. Ussually subtract 15 to 20 percent for turning and unproductive operations. 5 ft mower x 3.5 mph divide by 8.25 equals 2.12 acres an hour times 80 percent for efficiency should be able to do 1.7 acres an hour.
