I almost got hit again, left hand out, double yellow line in front of my place.

I swear people should take written test every time for renewal. It would weed out a few.

YOU WANTA RANT? I've had the same problem for years. I had the county make op a BIG sign that 'tractors turn left ahead'. I put up a BIG orange 'no passing zone' sign in the corner of my yard- where a driver in the left lane approaching has to see it, 200' from my driveway. And I have still gotten 5 cars and a motorcycle while making a left turn, even with flashers and turn signals on. One dumb bunny even passed two other cars before she hit the tractor. The kids found a sticker book from the movie "Cars", and have been putting them on the side of my cab, like a fighter pilot. I'M AN ACE!!!!! AT least so far, no one has been hurt in the making of this comedy, although the motorcycle did wind up under the no-till coulters on the drill....

Don't think they teach drivers today about what the yellow line or slow moving vehicle signs means anymore? Had some close calls myself. Good thing you are ok. Always check your mirror and looked back before you turn. Having a rear view mirror is a must if you take a tractor on the road then you can see them coming.

I have to do the same maneuver off a 65 mph two lane road that has in the past couple of years had MAJOR added traffic of BIG oil company trucks and tankers. It is a seat clenching experience every time in slow moving grain trucks and on tractors. It is scary enough in a pickup or car....sometimes you have to decide are you going to be beter off beating the guy coming at you head on at 70 mph or are you gonna trust the guy coming up on your tail at 70 to see and slow/stop for you.

You don't live in Georgia by any chance? Read a story last night, in the last few days; an accident involving 7 vehicles. 6 of the 7 drivers were above the legal limit on alcohol!

Do you really think taking a written test would change the arrogant: its all about me; rush everywhere attitude people have today.

Just go sit on the side of any road between 4 and 5 pm and watch these fools as they head home. I can understand rushing TO work because you were to lazy to get up on time; but what are you rushing home to. All you will do when you get there is plop your big ___ on the lounge chair; watch TV and drink beer.

The elevator is at most 6 miles from the fields. I refuse to drive a grain truck loaded with wheat faster than 35-40 miles an hour on an old two lane blacktop. You can't hug the edge in most spots because the blacktop will cave out. That's not even with 700 bushels on the big truck - that's with 225 on the little one.

I have had some folks pull some crazy stunts in the last week. Yes, my beasts are liable to slow down on the hills, but I am not sure it is a good idea to pass on the crest. My favorite was the guy in a dually that crested the hill half on my side. When he saw me he swerved over taking out all of the trash cans for the three houses at the top of the hill. Never stopped.

Your rant is the prime reason why that 9 years ago on this very day, we moved our dairy to a new farm 25 miles north of our century farm. You see, the local Indian rez put up a casino 5miles down the road from our former farm. This is a dead end road, one way in ,same way out.It is a huge task to move a dairy farm, and young family. But the wife and I have no regretts about our move, as it would only be a matter of time before some tragic accident would occur,as we had 2 farms kitty corner crossed the road from each other. So no matter what you had behind a tractor you were always making a left turn. Township counted the traffic at 10,000 carrs per day through the week, and wouldn't publish weekend numbers. The Rez now has a "smoke shack" and a gas station now as well, it is crazy. Stay safe and becareful, I know what you are going through, and I got sick of it and got out. Bruce

David, this used to happen to me on a regular basis, even with the combine. It seemed people wanted to pass me at an intersection, a culvert or a mailbox. Now, if I am going to make a left hand turn I drive smack dab in the middle of the road (assuming there is frontal vision) so there is a lot less of a possibility for someone to pass. I"ts not fail-safe but it sure helps. Mike

Same problem on my road. Picked up another 10 acres this spring 1/2 mile away. Was going to plant more landscape trees, I get around 600/acre. Decided to lease it out, too many citiots going way too fast to move the equipment back and forth.

No better over here, only our roads are much narrower! makes it more interesting...... We have an old canal bridge on a slight corner and this year after it being ther for200 years the car drivers have taken exception to it...it has been hit at least 5 times all by people doing less than 20 mph?????? Now I can get round that corner at 40 mph every time with no problems, so figure that one?
Another problem we have is texting or talking on mobile phones. Totally illegal to even sit at the side of the road with the keys in the ignition while talking on the phone here, but they still do it. Young girls and truckers are the worst. Our modern tractors all have indicaters and brake lights fitted, but they are only decoration as far as car drivers are concerned. I also drive right in the middle of the road before turning. it helps some but not a lot!

Just wait till you get down here at the lake. Lots of rubber necks trying to find thing and they do no know how to use a signal let alone hit there brakes they just turn and they do not care what is in the way that is why I stay away from Osage Beach this time of year LOL

Its just as bad if not worse here in Florida. Just get on I 4 between Tampa and Orlando. We call it the east west parking lot. Want to have some fun just try to get through the Disney World area on a holiday. The area I live in was mainly two lane roads and orange groves but not anymore US 98 is being expanded to 6 lanes just 200 yards from my house. I hate driving anywhere any more. Drove one of our tractors over to my fathers the other day so he could use to mow at his church. Thought I was going to get run over before I got there. Would not let him drive it a mile down the road went back and got the trailer. But I live on a piece of ground that's been in my family since before WW 2 so I guess I'll stick it out

My youngest son just got his learner's permit a couple of weeks ago. My wife was with him as he drove and luckily he looked in the rear view mirror one day as he was making a left turn. He saw a car coming a great speed behind him and then the car behind him goes into the left lane and passes him right before my son makes a left turn. Luckily, my son stopped right in the middle of the highway and just waits for the guy to go around. Had he made the left turn, the car would have probably clipped him in the driver's door, at a high speed. My wife was with my son and she also said that my son had his left turn signal on.
It was his first example of defensive driving.

I got passed on the shoulder driving my bota home from doing some postholes for a friend.

On the harvest an idiot was passing one of our semis on the right shoulder while the semi was making a right turn into a field lane. The semi's turn signal was on and bright long before he made the turn. There was a fatality. The court ruled in favor of the idiot who passed on the shoulder!!!!!! It makes my blood boil whenever I think about it. Jim

We are right off of the main road between Wilmington and Fayetteville. It's a busy 2 lane and we are in the middle of a 4 mile straight stretch but inevitably if we are going somewhere along 87 with a piece of equipment, there will be someone running up on us fast-usually beach traffic or vehicles heading to Fort Bragg or Camp Lejeune in a hurry. The truckers usually use good judgement. A lot of times I will pull off to the right if I can instead of risking getting hit on a left turn, which is my biggest concern with equipment on the road. Sometimes you can do that, sometimes you can't.
