electrical 3way lighting

Question for you master electricians? I"m wiring a shed for a neighbor, he would like 2 spot lites on each end of his new 28"shed. The issue is he"d like the lites to be on motion sensers & work as lites on a 3-way from both the house & shed? I have the 3 wire from the house to the shed.I have a spot/motion lt. at my back door which works as a motion & is also on a S1 switch. I don"t want to take it apart to see how they wired it "cause we have a pheobe nest on top, they are our daytime bats as they eat so many bugs & our bat #"s are near 0, thats another problem in our area.I know I have a 14/3 as a s/l to my lite but am on sure how it"s wired nor if it will work on a 3/way? Any in-put will be helpful? Thanks Jeff

For two different locations to control a common load you use Single Pole Double Throw SPDT switches (3 terminals) at BOTH locations. The THROWS are wired together,,,,,,,,,The POLE on one switch wires to the hot voltage feed,,,,,,,,The POLE on the other switch wires to the load. I'm sure some of the sparkies will post a diagram. 14 Gauge wire has 15 amps ampacity and needs protected by a 15 amp overload protection device (fuse or breaker)....

Might be a little complex, but I'd wire it like any other three way switch to the barn with a small bulb that can be seen from the house. This is so you can tell if the lights with motion detectors have power to them. Then in parallel with the small indicator light wire your motion detector lights. The motion detectors will keep the lights off until they detect movement, then turn them on. The indicator lights will verify that you have power to the motion detectors, even though the lights are off.

all the motion sensors I have seen you put in dusk to dawn mode by turning power off for 2 or 3 seconds, and put back in motion sensor mode by turning it off for 10 seconds or more. You could just wire the switches in series through both switches. That way either one could do the interruption. Some motion sensors have instructions not to bypass them and apply power directly to the switch as it will damage the circuitry..

Your existing switch probably has one wire going to the motion sensor, and the other wire going directly to the lamp. The 3rd wire is the hot line form fuse box.
