John Deere 5 Gallon Oil bucket!

Maybe I am crazy; but should a 5 gallon bucket that cost $83.75 be sealed so no oil leaks out! Left mine sitting in the back of a truck all night in the rain. Went out to get it out of the truck a while ago, & I have a nice oil slick in the truck bed now! the lid had oil pooled all over it which probably means one thing. Water has to be in the bucket! There was no slick feeling anywhere on it when I picked it up at the dealer. They are closed tomorrow so now I cant change the oil till at least Friday after I take it back for a replacement!

Yes, those plastic pop on lids are not 100% sealed they can breathe air out and water in if everything is not perfect in the lid seals or gasket ring.

My question is, if the dealer left the oil bucket out in the rain, then he should replace it.

If you left it out in the rain, then who is atleast partially to blame ??

Sorry Scotty They are all like that. You will have to have a good dealer if he replaces it.

That same 5 gallon bucket of oil without the John Deere name on it is about 440-50 dollars else where for the same spec. oil.

I have never had one leak. They are supposed to be sealed. Unscrew the lid and see if the pull tab is gone. Maybe somebody opened it.

Jon is right when those buckets pressure up in the sun, then it rains and gets cooler, it will almost always suck in some rain. Your fault, for leaving it out in the rain. I'm sorry. Had the same thing happen only worse. The delivery guy unloaded a 55 gal barrel in front of the shop (I told him to) rained on it and it sucked water in. Just left it set and in a week or two started taking oil out. When empty was a nasty 1/2 inch or so left in the bottom. Vic

Scotty,
If you lived in northeast Texas you could leave it outside all summer. In fact, if you"ll ship it down here, the water would evaporate in a few days.

Was at a dealer once and went to buy an empty 5 gallon bucket with their logo and they wanted $20 for it. I walked away.
