Every trip throught Terre Haute, the gas prices keep falling. What is the lowest you have and location? I invest in gas futures. Have 10 5 gallon cans, so when gas starts to go up I fill them up, along with my vehicles. Use the cans mostly in tractors and mowers.

$3.42 at admiral in Chesaning MI, I wont give the arabs my money though, id rather pay the extra 10 cents and give it to an American.

$3.289 in Spring Hill, TN. 20 miles up the road in Franklin, TN, it is bouncing around $3.499. Folks in Franklin have more money than folks in Spring Hill - at least, that's how the gas stations see it.

Woooooooo down to a CHEAP $3.49 woooooooooo

Some may not recall but when external_link took office it was near a whopping $1.89 and the left blamed those high prices on Bush and his rich oil buddies......They still blaming the prez you reckon????

Other day it was #3.41 in Indianapolis

John that was an abberation that did not last long. Beginning of the recession. Don't take this that I support the current president.

The Illinois refinery is back on line. BP in Whiting, IN is ramping up to it's 600,000 barrel capacity.

Not to worry mate I wont........If you did, you would be one of the few willing to admit it lol

JohnT,
I remember when I could fill my motorcycle for under a buck and it took less than $3 to fill up my karman giha. Then OPEC caused gas jump close to $1.50 in the early 70's.

Now, someone please tell me if $1.50 is correct and what was the price in the 60's?.

Okay top this,,,,,in the late sixties (dont remember exact year but when I was dating the wife so had to been 66 thru 69) there was a gas war in Evansville, Indiana AND I PAID 18.9 FOR GAS. Thats 18.9 NOT 118.9

In small town Loogootee Indiana it was around 25 cents in mid sixties. We 4 teens would all chip in a quarter n ride around all day in the family car, stop n buy a dollars worth.

Gee Im gettin old if I remember gas for 18.9

I went to college in 67 and thought gas was under or around a quarter. Motorcycle didn't hold 4 gallons and karman held 10 gallons.

Had an oil furnace in the 68 and paid $.11 a gallon.

Then I think the oil embargo was in late 73 or early 74. That was the beginning of expensive gas.

I was in college in the late 70s when gas stations had to update pumps because they couldn't show prices over a buck.

I'm in Georgia, but go into South Carolina often.
Sat.in S.C., saw it @ one place for 3.05 [CASH ONLY] and several places for 3.09. I use a CC with a 5% rebate so I bought at the 3.09 place.
Using my card my gas was around 2.94 after rebate.
Still tough for someone that bought many gallons @ 27.9 !!!!

I pay more now fur a tank of gas than I paid for my first car.
I paid $50.00 for a model A Ford back in 1955, now it cost more than that to fill up the gas tank.

Tell the whole store if you want to bring up Bush and external_link.
Gas was about $1.40 in Jan 2001 when Bush went into office and about $1.90 when he got out of office in Jan 2009.
That is true but you also need to add gas got to $4.11 just before the election in Nov 2008.
Funny how it went from over $4 to under $2 over night just before a election. It dropped so fast many that deal in oil futures lost their shirts.

Do not take this that I support the current president.

The lowest gasoline price that I remember was .139 during a summer long gas war in 1970 or 1971.

FWIW, Gulf Station (and others) at Third and Marshall in Terre Haute.

I do not believe that gasoline reached $1.00 until the late 1970s.

Come to think, because the pumps couldn't go over a dollar, didn't some try to sell it by the liter or they doubled the pump price?

I Googled OPEC Oil Embargo, 1973-1974. The OPEC Oil Embargo, which lasted from October 1973 to March 1974, posed a major threat to the U.S. economy.

So, my memory isn't as bad as I thought. Gas prices started to jump in 73 and has never returned to the good old days. Which president should we blame for the embargo?
George

Gas dropped from $3.53 this morning to $3.46 this evening in central Minnesota. I'd better fill up, gas always goes up here for the Fourth of July travel holiday.

Not to worry mate, and please dont think I do either lol

Red, wouldn't it be nice to know ahead of time when a refinery is going off line and gas prices are going north? Would that be insider trading having that knowledge? Does the gas company profit from rising prices or the speculators or both or politicians, because they can make money on insider info. and not break any law?

I would have a large gas storage tank and profit from insider info.
George

Don't worry, we're due for some sort of "supply disruption" soon. $4.25 is probably right around the corner.

Let me know when it hits $1.85. Until then, it's no bargain.

Got you beat by just a little bit John. Fall of 65 went to town with my 57 chevy to go to the movies. Going through very little two station town with the pumps a block apart with cars lined up at pumps. Filled the car with gas at .16 per gallon, went on to the other town and the movie, had a snack and returned home for less than $5.00
Total round trip of about 40 miles.

John, I know you're a pretty smart fellow. That's why I'm assuming you know you're deliberately misstating facts. The price of gasoline was nearly $4 a gallon one month before the 2008 pres election. Goergie and his rich oil buddies did a fine job for themselves, but they couldn't hold up the economy long enough to get McCain into office. You can be sure they were able to keep thier fortunes through the recession, unlike the average American...
