Harvest is Started Here as Well

Got started yesterday afternoon. Moisture was 13.5 and test weight was 61.5. Hope to get second machine in the field today.
Just missed some severe storms last night by about 6 miles. Talked to a guy North of me a little that had 3 inches and hail. Feel bad for him, but thankful we missed it.
We are in the center of Kansas. Supposed to be 102F today and 25 mile per hour wind. Ought to finish drying out any wheat that was still "just close". I'll try to get some better pictures tonight. Bob

Bob is that a 7720? Neighbor's wheat in east central Indiana should be ready around July 4th. which is a week earlier than usual.

Yes it is a 7720. The other machine is a 6600. Last year we started May 26th. This year June 24th. What a difference a year makes. At this point the fields are looking like 50 to 60 bu per acre, which is good here in central Ks. Course you never want to count your chickens before they hatch.

Where are you in central Kansas? The Dighton area is about as close to central Kansas as we came as far as harvesting goes. Then it was on to Deerfield. I miss being there though I don't miss the 100 degree temps and the long days. Someday I'm going to go to kansas during harvest, stop when I see some combines, run up to one of them and hop in for a ride as long as the ladder is upwind from the chaff.LOL Jim

That is a decent yield. When I lived in Enid, OK, they were happy to get 40. Wheat in east central Indiana this year probably 60 to 80.

A lot of the time I am happy with 40. lol! More than one year we have cut 25 to 30 bushel wheat. A lot depends here on early heat, low moisture, and late freezes on whether the wheat will amount to anything. Like the old saying goes, "If it was easy anyone could do it" lol! This year has been very good so far here. Close to some late frosts, but doesn't appear to have hurt anything. Good cool spring with plenty of rain this year. However a good portion of KS, especially in the SW areas are extremely dry still. That and frosts have hurt the wheat there pretty bad in those areas.

I flew over most of Kansas in my speedy T38. We had a low level route over the Oklahoma Cimarron River that took us up to Garden City Before heading back to Enid. Flew into McConnell AFB quite a bit. Also a couple of times into Richard Gebaurs. That was a big pain to fly in and out of.

Combine wise I have a lot of hours in a 4420, 6620 and some time in a 9510. Neighbor now has a 9860 I believe. I plan to shot gun only. Too complicated!

Is that Jabarras airport in Wichita you are talking about? I have flown in and out of there a few times. (Not with me at the controls)

A family we harvested for in the Deerfield area said they aren't hiring custom harvesters this year for the first time in 37 years. They only have a crop on their irrigated land and it's short because of the frost so they can do it easily with their own two combines. Jim
