I would also be interested in answers to your question...

I do like controllers that have a digital read out... I have used mine enough I know were to dial it in loaded and unloaded... If I loan my truck and trailer I can tell you were to set it no guessing needed....

I rewired a 20ft goose neck and installed new brakes on both axles yesterday it was a nite-mare....

It had enough scotch locks on it to fill a 5 gal bucket,,, no lining on 2 wheels,,, brakes completely gone on one wheel,,, one side the wheel bearings at one time went out and the axle stub butchered...

Agree with Hobo. If you are using multiple trailers with various weights, the digital is a must.

First brake controller had a light that changed to a darker red with higher brake setting. Try remembering what color of red for what trailer.

Digital makes is much simpler.

I paid $60 + $7 shipping for mine on ebay years ago. Love it, digital and self leveling. Great controller Tekonsha presum IQ brake controller.

I've towed many miles with a Tekonsha Prodigy and have never had a complaint. It is a proportional unit which means the trailer braking is much smoother and comfortable, as it applies more trailer brakes the harder the truck is stopping. The cheap time based units just have a delay after you hit the brakes then boom the trailer brakes come on.

If you get in a serious wreck with that truck you're pretty well screwed anyway, but I mounted my brake controller up on top of the dash once I took it out of the Chevy I totalled. After my shattered knee cap healed, of course. Little bending of the mount and the controller's good as new.

Tekonsha P3 hands down is the best controller. It's a proportional style controller, so you won't even feel the brakes being applied. It automatically changes the voltage applied depending on what slope of ground you are going down. Plus, the brakes even work when going in reverse. It even has a trouble shooting display of voltage and other things to help when there is a problem. It will also tell you if you have a short in the brake wire to keep the trailer brakes from working. I can't say enough about how great it really is compared to all the others I have used in the past. It's well worth the price you have to pay for it.

One last thing, you can adjust the amount of braking "boost" by a touch of the button. So, that means you can set the braking force applied differently for a empty trailer, light loaded trailer, or a heavy load with just a touch of a button.
