Zero turn lift

This has been bugging me for a while and its time to find a better answer.

When I clean the deck on my zero turn or change the blades, I cannot easily fit under it. I drive it on ramps, but the ramps are right in the way of the two outside blades, plus it is not high enough anyway.

I tried spraying underneath, that still dont get all the grass out.

I need to lift it higher, but I want to be safe. So no chaining it to my loader or my eninge hoist and climbing underneath. I want something solid and safe.

Any ideas? TSC and Farm and Fleet sell a lift but it is not wide enough, looks like it is more designed for the homeowner zero turns.

Machine is a Ferris 3100, 72in deck, according to the owners manual its 1700 lbs.

Thanks, this board always as good ideas.

I have a set of car ramps that the ramp comes off after you have your vehicle up on the flat part. I love them. I bought them 25 years ago or more.

Here is a picture of what they look like. Also here is a picture of some a fellow built using wooden blocks. You could do that real easy too. Just put some short carriage bolts in the ramp board and drill a hole in the block stack. This way the ramp will not kick out but you can still remove it when your up on the stack.

I drive mine onto my loader bucket with the front wheels inside the bucket and then curl the bucket up to the desired height that I can get under the mower.

I use my engine hoist for a lot of things like that. * I have a locking bar to keep the hoist from coming down on me.

If you need more height, I don't think ramps are going to be an option.

You could build taller supports, similar to your ramps-just without the ramp. Then lift it with your loader and place the supports under the front wheels. It would be safer to swivel the front wheels 180 degrees before lowering them onto the supports, which would gain you more working room also.

It still seems like a lot of hassle, but is all I can think of.

(FYI) The engineers at Grasshopper have addressed your dilemma. It is a power-tilt deck. An electric motor jacks the deck to about 60 degrees. I bought one and my deck gets power washed after every use.

I've got an 04 snapper...has a stand mounted to the frame so when you lift up the front, it brings the rear wheels up too..Pretty cumbersome. Another way...use the car/truck ramps to drive the mower up onto a house deck, like mine is about 2 foot off the ground. Then I back the pickup to within 3 or 4 feet of the deck..put the ramps on the tailgate and the deck and drive the mower up on the ramps...you can get underneath and look up into the machines engine housing (for changing belts..accessing the hydrostatic drives etc..

I use my engine lift also. I have it sitting out in the yard next to a water hose. Get on my creeper with my impact tool and blow the blades off, use a flat 12" (ish) crow bar as a scraper. Works great. While the blades are off off to the grinder for a touch up.

I do put a jack stand under the deck incase something should go astray. I like my arms like they are. Grin

For a lot of stuff like that I lift it with my forklift to whatever is a good comfortable height and then support the forklift with one of various pipes and posts that I keep around.

Thanks for all the input. I have a place in the barn where I re-inforced the ceiling for lifting. For starters I will use that and make taller blocks for the wheels to sit on.

I could use my engine hoist but it would take half a day to move all the stuff out of the way.

I need a few more inches than the ramps give me. I have blocks I made for my Model A that are a little taller, I will add another couple inches to those. Right now the ramps are in the way, and its too close to the ground to use the impact on the blades.

Rick I have a set of 2 ton jack stands from Sears. They where on sale and where only like $25. Use them under your mower after you lift it. I use these light ones all of the time on mowers and such.
