Stop leak for vehicle a/c system

This is probably going to open a big can a worms but I am going to ask it anyway. What is the best stop-leak in the can for vehicle a/c systems on the market these days? I have a 99 Ford Ranger that leaks freon and I don"t want to put a lot of money into it. Truck just isn"t worth putting big bucks into. So what you opinion on the stop-leak.

I can not begin to tell you how many farm tractor systems we have had to go thru AFTER some guy has tried that stuff. I guess it works sometimes but most times just makes for a more costly repair.

Its been my experience a leak is often at the compressors front seal which stop leak just dont seem to ever fix grrrrrrrrrr

Look on Flea Bay for new or rebuilt compressors and that plus a new filter dryer receiver maybe an orfice will get her coldddddddddd again IF THE VEHICLE IS WORTH THE COST????????

Don't do it!!!! A friend told me to so I did. Pretty soon the system was not working again and I had to put in a new receiver-dryer because it was all plugged up.

Mental note: Don"t connect A/C machine to any 99 Rangers from____________. Where did you say you"re from? Stop leak killed our last A/C machine.
Stop leak is pure poo in a can. If you have a decent air compressor, you can get an air powered vacuum pump and a manifold gauge set inexpensively from Harbor Freight. You can charge it up with a can of refrigerant that has tracer dye in it and find your leak, drain off the system and replace the leaking part, use your inexpensive vacuum pump and manifold gauge and fix it right.

Never used it. Read up on it. There is a dryer to use before you add the glue. If all you add is glue you will be asking for trouble. Dryer and glue is around $70. Friend used glue and it didn't work. Doubt if the glue will fix a leaky compressor seal, which could be your problem.

Install a 2/70 A/C. Wind both windows down and drive 70. Perhaps a 2/55 will be safer.

Just put a can of refrigerant in it and see how long it will last. My daughters car needed a can in the spring and it cooled the car all summer.

I'm with you, just add freon.

When I was a kid, my dad could buy R-12 for about $.50 #. We had cars lined up in the drive getting their A/C topped off. Back then there was no EPA. Dad made a fast buck, people were happy. He would do 20-30 cars a day. Dumped it in liquid and filled them until the sight glass had no more bubbles.

From what little I know about the glue, it is activated with the moisture in the air. So if you add it, then decide to replace the compressor, the glue will hit the air and TROUBLE. Should also add a dryer that converts any moisture in your system to oil.
