got a good one for allyou model t ford fans and see if any of you have ever had this happen, me and a buddy had to clean out a shed friday, we had to move his 1919 model t out of it so he started it up and moved it,[hand crank, no electric start on this one] he let the engine warm up while it was running before shutting it down, a little later he was explaining the intricacies of the way to start the T, even though i basicly know how they work i let him, well we"re standing there and he goes and he moves the spark control lever, the old girl fired up and idled, i mean thats all he did was move the spark lever odd? on subsiquent tries it never happened again

Yep it will happen sometimes. Had to chase my 25 T pickup down once when I reached in and turned the key. I could make it do it pretty regular when it was running good.

If there is power to the "buzz" ignition coils, and the engine stops with the commutator ungrounded(that is with the grounding roller on an insulated segment of the commutator), then moving the spark advance lever so that the grounding roller contacts a grounded segment of the commutator completes the ignition circuit and causes a spark. If there's gas in the cylinder it may start right up. Everything has to be rotated just so, but it is not uncommon. This same phenomenon can happen with any engine with a battery powered buzz coil type ignition system.

Yep, sometimes I reach in and turn the switch to battery and she fires right up.

That's a parade trick that one of the local guys uses all the time. Sometimes everything isn't lined up right, and he has to hop out and twist it over, and then he gets a razzin' from the crowd, ha. I guess when they're tuned up and in good shape, they start pretty easy.
