GRRR breakdowns

Waitin so long for a 4-5 day window (like everybody else) went out this morning and cut about 30 feet with my Hesston 1090 and lost the gib key for the reel clutch drive and broke the 1/4" through bolt.
It was a real fight to get off cause the through bolt had cut a groove inside and was holding on.
Plus, no extra gib keys for the Hesston, so it just got a filed down square key.

I know, they never break in the barn....heading out to try again!

One thing is good, you have 4-5 days, we're lucky if we get 2 days this season so far, last year from mid June to August there was no rain, so maybe they'll turn it off, right now theres enough moisture to last til august it seems. Still better than a drought, just got a soaker again, should pass through, was humid, now cooler drier air from the north, then back to the rinse cycle LOL.

PS watch out fer them tree frogs ! LOL !

Tried to lay some Wednesday , got to the field had a front go flat on the tractor, fixed that got back out, tire went flat again side wall blow out, replace with new tire. Just about finish the bigger part, the old PT7 plugs to hell and gone, find out I lost a bearing on the upper conditioner roll. Replace that, go back Thursday start to cut reel stops working under load, find out the gib key is gone and notice the pitman bearing is going as well. Go buy replacement parts, figure I'll get them in later. Rake the field Friday night, take the tractor, baler and wagon up Saturday about 10:00 still a little tough so we wait a bit, next thing rain followed by more rain Sunday, followed by rain again today. Maybe we can finish 1st cutting by the end on June this year.

My trouble will come the rest of the week. I checked all four fields that need to be planted to corn yet this morning and had water standing in all of them,so out of blind rage and frustration,I knocked down 25 acres of hay. Had no trouble at all. So now with a decent forcast through Friday, what do you want to bet the baler, planter, disc and at least one tractor will bite the dust so I won't only have a bunch of corn left to plant, but a lot of hay on the ground I can't bale too?

I feel for ya Larry - hope the 2nd try works out. We are getting more rain right now - storm on Saturday layed the hay flat and no sun or wind to dry it out and bring it back up.

When my nephew started farming his folks land, I started buying him tools and hardware as his dad only had a few old wrenches. I've sent him all kinds of hardware, (springs, keys, bolts, braces, etc.) as it's 40 miles to the nearest town where he can buy that kind of thing.

Every once in awhile he tells me that he needed something and was able to find it in the hardware that I've sent him - which saves him a long trip to town and back.

Didn't cost me a lot and helps him in his farming operation. His Dad, mother and his wife have all passed away, so he is doing everything himself until his son gets old enough to help him.

Sounds like it. That big storm went through Mt Pleasant a little while ago and missed me. The other one that came on shore pretty well broke up and/or went just to the south. Looks like a few sprinkles. Just as long as the one last batch coming on shore now heads south.
The plan is to try to see what I can mud in on one side of two fields tomorrow, bale hay Wednesday, then mud in the wet spots Thursday and Friday. Sounds like whatever I don't have in by then might stay that way. They're saying heavy storms by the weekend again.
