If, by chance, I were to go up to Pennsylvania Amish Country, when exactly might be the best dates to see them harvesting corn, etc.?

Late august early sept. We had a late spring this year so I would guess not many guys cutting corn untill the last week of august at the earliest this year.

Here's a picture of them cutting corn. It was on the Lancaster Journal several years ago. Hal

We filled silos using the same method until 1949 or 1950 when a local farmer bought a chopper and did custom silo filling. My brother and I were still in high school and we both played sports. My dad hired this man with his chopper and Farmall M. It took us several weeks to fill the old way. He also had 2 dump trucks to haul the silage and we kept 2 men tramping the silage.
We filled both big silos in 3 days

The farm manager kept the belt tractor fueled and oil level checked. WE had a 10-20 on the belt until we bought an H in 1950 and used that on the belt. In 1951 my brother joined the Air Force and in 1953 I was drafted into the Army. My dad was getting up in age and sold the farm in 1954.
He had a college degree and went to work for a chemical company. My nephew has the home they bought after selling the farm. Hal

The Amish are having Horse Plow Days in Arcola Illinois the 4th & 5th of July at the Vernon Yoder Farm. I have been to the one they had in Indiana a few yrs. ago. All the manufactures will be there.

Last year I was down to Rough and Tumble in Kinzer, Mid August. I saw lost of horse drawn binding of corn going on. I like to sit and watch. oldiron29
