This is in my front yard and has been for several years. No chemicals, nothing dumped. This once was a bean/cotton farm field but has been my yard now for about 8 years now. Any ideas? ( posting a pic from my phone- I hope)

Pic won't load. The spot is a large donut with a green spot in the middle and dead all around in a perfect circle. This thing is about 10ft across.

One of my neighbors had a green ring in his yard. I thought he'd kicked on his PTO with a fertilizer spreader attached, but that would only make a half circle. We stared at it for awhile, but nobody had an answer. Where's that Nolan guy? He'd have a story!

fairy rings.

Said to be from decaying matter under the soil.

Have a few in my yard where I have reshaped and backfilled.

Yes.......fairy ring. Supposedly, the only way to get rid of them is to dig out all the topsoil to a depth of 1 foot and replace. I have several in my yard and have no explanation as to why they are there.

Had this one year on our pond, Work Me up in a hurry.

Likely a fairy ring. They eat up dead matter in the soil. Ring gets bigger, as they expand outward. In wet conditions, you can see mushrooms growing along the edge. Only thing you can do to lessen the effect, is to fertilize the area, to try and match up the color.

If you want to see the real things, go to earthfiles with Linda Moulton Howe. Most of them are in England. Very, very elaborate and schematic. We saw one up by Rock Island, IL several years ago. It wasn't real large but close to a power substation that was in a corn field.
